Gee, ruprecht,
Are we going to be subjected to yet another year of how "they" missed the boat when they didn't cast Orfeh?
I had been wondering when your criticisms of Marin was going to start, and sure enough it has even before she began performances.
Re-read my post, I said NOTHING unkind about Mazzie and my valid and wildly shared opinion on Orfeh STAYS. What's it to you anyway? All my ranting made no difference so you should be thrilled.
I agree, the constant, "Orfeh is the only person who can play this role" responses do get a bit redundant. However, I don't think he's "criticized" Marin Mazzie at all.
Out of curiosity, Ruprecht, do you know if Orfeh has even shown interest in the role? Has she even gone in to audition?
Marin Mazzie is the reason I will be seeing Spamalot for the third time. I am so excited!!!

I kind of got the feeling when all the Simone rumors were flying around that Orfeh was auditioning as well. So maybe they didn't feel she was right for the part. Maybe they thought she was too similar to Sara? I was hoping to see Orfeh just so I could see for myself if she was that good.
Also, when I saw Lauren at Chatterbox she said her contract was up in December, which would have been a full year. Looks like she's leaving a bit early.

I don't and have never pretended to know where exactly Orfeh stands on this herself, I'm simply sick and tired of the many missed opportunities where she is involved. Theater tics are expensive and now and again, I'd like to get my money's worth, and see a perfect fit for a role. And thanks for pointing out again, that I had nothing unkind to say about MM. Btw, I often make fun of myself before being redundant. I know I get carried away.
J. Hadary is such a wonderful actor I'm sure he will be a great addition to the show.
I did not have a favorable reaction to Lauren Kennedy in the role, so I can only believe Marin will be an improvement.
The show doesn't hold up so well under repeated viewing, IMO, so I probably won't go again unless someone gives me a ticket.

Now that's the smartest and truest thing anyone has ever stated about the show and/or the cast!
See then, this constant harping about Orfeh seems a bit silly. For all we know, she may have no desire at all to play the Lady of the Lake.
I totally agree Adam and i make a vow to never say another word about it.
Marin Mazzie is a GREAT comedy actress plus she has the best voice on Broadway. Wow! I will definitely be there.
I was just talking about Jonathan Hadary on the "Gemini" post!
My only hope is that they'll raise the key a touch, although doubtless Marin's belt register will land in the key as is.
Marin is the first bit of casting change to the show that will drag me out to see this show again.
This is wonderful for Marin, but I hope it doesn't mean that she and her husband will be cancelling their SF Plush Room concerts the week before.
...although they probably will. *sigh*

I thought Sara was perfect in this role, but I'm glad they're changing up the casting. "The Mold" gets soo old (Sara's also very unique). My guess is that they want a elegant Broadway Diva type much like Lilli Vanessi. I don't think they should change any of the keys. The role's pretty rangey.
To be successful, the actress who plays LADY IN THE LAKE has to be a VERY versatile singer. Marin is one of the most versatile singers I think we have in the broadway community these days. She can sound VERY legit, she can belt with the best of them, she can sound very stylized and "period." I don't think she's going to have any difficulty in pulling of this new role.
Totally random but I want David and Hank to come back LOL!!!

Isn't she a little too old for that part?
I was wondering about the age to. As for my comment i just feel like Marin's replacements were far superior to her as Kate/Lily.
I mean i think she will do a good job but i just have no desire to see her in the role.
Has Chris left yet?
And I was talking about Mr. Hadary on the Torch Song thread.
The man is amazing as is Ms. Mazzie. It would be worth sitting through Spamalot again to see what they do with the roles.
She's going to be SO incredible. It's a SHAME the American Theater Wing isn't doing the "Best Replacement" award afterall....
I LOVE MARIN MAZZIE!

Who said The Lady of the Lake has to be a certain age? Why? because Sara Ramirez did it? I think it's about time people started looking at Broadway shows as a collection of roles as opposed to a collection look-a-like types. There's nothing in the script to even hint at the Lady's age. Actually she's prob been around for some time. I think this role is totally open.

Isn't the premise that the Lady of the Lake becomes Guinevere?
And isn't Guinevere suppose to be a younger woman that falls in love with the younger Sir Lancelot versus the older King Arthur?
Maybe that's where the "age issue" comes into play.
Anyway, Marin will be fine in the role.
oooo Marin Mazzie...this excites me.
