Does this statement in the Memphis commercial drive anyone else batty? When was this roof installed? Yet another reason to loathe this show...

I saw it and thought I was in a tiny minority that is was just ok. No chemistry with the leads and the story was predictable. The only thing I really liked was the dancing.
So in a roundabout way, they're saying that MEMPHIS blows?

It somehow got the Tony ! Fela was boring but at least it was different I think that the tonys named it best musical because they do not have the guts to choose something more exciting . I also think they thought it would sell out shame on you tony voters.

Hey I had to listen to YEARS of raves for that stinky putrid turd "title of show" you can endure a couple of commercials for this thing.

'Memphis' was using the 'Blowing the Roof' tagline months ago, but they have a more recent one: 'Winner! Best Musical, 2010 Tony Award.'
And Tony voters were not the only ones to vote 'Memphis' the Best Musical of the season. So did the members of the Drama Desk. And so did the Outer Critics Circle. At any rate, it has its fans; it won the Triple Crown of theater awards.
If we're gonna start knocking taglines, what about the NEW one for 'Million Dollar Quartet'? They're promoting the show as 'Wife Tested and Husband Approved.'
Everytime I watch Jackie Hoffman's broadway.com vlog I have to watch an advertisement for that sorry excuse for a musical. My ears bleed when I hear that Steal Your Rock n Roll song and the tag line "Memphis BLOWS the roof off of Broadway." So dreadful.

^ Oh please. Especially since Jackie's only got a vlog because of The Addams Family.
Hyperbole -- it's what's for breakfast in advertising.
Not living in the tri-state area, I don't see the commercials until the tours start coming through.
Lynnespock -- you are NOT in a tiny majority. I certainly didn't hate it, but I wholeheartedly agree your post. In fact, for a NYC minute, I thought that "I" had written that post! (Really!)
As far as winning a Tony (and other awards)? It was a lackluster season -- SOMETHING had to win.

Someone here seems to be really really bored,- starting a thread like this one! Hilarious!
"Especially since Jackie's only got a vlog because of The Addams Family."
Yea. Because she's never done ANYTHING else.
*eye roll*
I doubt they would've given her a vlog if she wasn't cast in a major Broadway show. It was obviously originally intended to be a promotional tool for the show. But since Jackie Hoffman is Jackie Hoffman, it became its own thing in no time.
Must be a pretty weak roof.
Another "I hate Memphis" thread? And the complaint is about the lack of originality. Does anybody else see the irony in this? C'mon, the show has been out for almost a year. Stop being lazy. Find another show to kick around already.
"American Idiot" being referenced to as a "smash hit" on "America's Got Talent" results show last week kind of drove me crazy.
