I enjoyed the California Adventure production.

Speaking of Spring Awakening cast members, Gideon Glick played Aladdin in California.

I think Aladdin would be a great Broadway show.

this sounds fine- but i wish disney would take a break from film-based shows, and do some originals (ala-Aida, but not).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they already planned one, I think, by Andrew Lippa.

Can we please have a real Arab play the main characters? Enough with the Idina and Lea suggestions...geez.

Yep! THE MAN IN THE CEILING by Jules Feiffer is supposedly being worked on with score penned by Andrew Lippa.

Hell no! Aladdin is not one of the musicals Disney Theatrical Productions is going after. It's a fallacy. It's one of those rumors like Beyonce in the movie version of Aida.

If you read the "bio" in The Little Mermaid Playbill, it mentions:

"Future DTP projects in development include The Man in the Ceiling featuring original book author Jules Feiffer and composer Andrew Lippa, and, through a developmental program with the renowned Williamstown Theatre Festival, a stage adaptation of Peter and the Starcatchers, anovel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson."

I'd love to see this on Broadway. I sort of imagined Megan Hilty in one way be Jasmine, or Lea Salonga if she'd be interested, but then again she could be too old by the time Aladdin reaches Broadway then. I could also picture Sierra Boggess aswell as Jasmine

Wow. Finally Disney is getting that this is the easiest animated film they have that can be translated to the stage. I can't believe they tried Tarzan and Little Mermaid before this one. It may seem like too much Disney, but I have a feeling one of 'em is on the way out...Poppins perhaps?...

oh my god, PLEASE let this be true! I love Aladdin!! Just last night I was talking with my friend about how I hoped that Aladdin got made into a Broadway show!

And as for the cast, if this show does happen, they really should get people of the correct RACE to play the characters. While I love Megan Hilty and Lea and Sierra and all the other suggestions people have given, they would all just be SO wrong to play Jasmine. Aladdin takes place in Arabia. Just a silly thought, I guess, but maybe it could be cast with people who actually LOOK like Arabs.....

I have a hard time believing that DTP is going to be allowed to do MAN IN THE CEILING. They can't even sell Mary Poppins with the Disney name over it.

Where are they going to find real Genies? If we are going totally literal with casting where are we going to find people who were born blue with magical powers...will green people be able to audition to?

I remember I listen to an audio interview with the head of Disney Theatricals. At the time, I heard that many were not thrilled that Lion King was coming to Broadway, even executives at Disney Theatricals did not want to do the show, they wanted to keep it in the form as a animated film. But the CEO of Disney told Disney Theatricals, to do it. So in response to some shows coming before others, I think it is what is what some people are being told to do and have no say in it. They just have to do it.

Nonetheless, they do it well and I am very excited to see these shows come to life.

Would it be good to have the Genie as a woman? It worked for Rafiki in "The Lion King".

And yet they can't bring Glockner to Broadway. Why? They already have done it.

Anywhoo, I am very excited for this one. I hope they include songs like "Why Me?" for this run.

I know many will agree with me when they hear me say this-
I don't know if I can take another Disney show. Sure they're great, but aren't they just like a cheesy musical that you could see in the park? I hope Little Mermaid and upcoming Aladdin prove me wrong...But when I think of Aladdin as a musical I can't help but flashback to my tween years of being in MGM Studios with my family seeing "Aladdin-Live on Stage!"

I know this is apropos of nothing, but Cole Porter did a score for the television version in the later 1950s. It wasn't anything great, but had a couple of nice songs -- only one that anyone remembers is Come to the Supermarket in Old Peking, which Streisand put on one of her early LPs (remember them?).
