I'd love to see Proud of Your Boy back in Aladdin. Great song!

I wish he would just focus on getting Sister Act and Leap of Faith on stage. I love the score/movie of Aladdin, but I think this is too quick after Mermaid to put up another Disney show. I wonder if Tim Rice will write some more lyrics or if they'll just use Chad. I'm sure the sets/costumes will be gorgeous and expensive.
RE Casting: they will never use a "star" like Will Farrell in the Genie role. No one gets above title credit in a Disney show. They will cast someone really amazing and hopefully make them a star, but they will be unknown to the general public (meaning outside of people who read this Board).
EDIT: I also like the idea of Norbert as the Genie. That would be perfect casting. And since he's still around (and currently in the Disney show world), why not get the original Jafar voice/Jonathan to do Jafar on stage.

Well, I think ALADDIN is actually pretty theatrically set up. If they embraced the "Arabian Nights" book theme even more than in the film, I think it could actually work pretty well.
I think they'd need to go with something completely different visually from the movie. Like THE LION KING, this film is set in a real place with real people and real landmarks. LITTLE MERMAID's fantasy setting and style work onstage because there's very little realism under the sea. But for ALADDIN, they'd need to revamp almost everything visually. New costumes, completely different from those in the movie. A realistic set, like that in THE LION KING. I think if the right director was at the helm, this show could be a true success.
But I thought Schumacher specifically stated: No two princesses on Broadway at one time. Ariel is a princess. Jasmine is a princess. Hypocrite, anyone?

You know what?
I really like the idea of NLB as the Genie now. I really, REALLY think that would work, because he's such a funny guy, and it would be awesome to see him do it.
As for Aladdin and Jasmine, I'm currently up for
Jose Llana and Kimee J. Balmilero.

Very muc agreed! I love that song and even get a little choked up. (Especially in the intro scenes on the DVD...one of the crew chokes up talking about Howard Ashman.) And even if you're sick of hearing about Clay Aiken, you must admit he does a nice job, clear and straightforward with no pop-singer excesses.
So...if they need to fill the story out anyway...why not re-instate Aladdin's mother? Maybe even give her a song of her own? (I liked the one line she had in the storyboard scene on the DVD--upset with Aladdin for going back on his promise to the Genie, she tells him, "The Genie may have made you a prince, but only YOU can make yourself a man!")

Posted: 12/19/07 at 6:05pmAs for the staging of "A Whole New World"(if "Aladdin ever came to broadway), I liked the basic idea of what they did on the Academy Awards. Lea Salonga and Brad Kane, did flow in on a carpet and walked around the city. From what I remember, they had dancers and performers who did things like juggle fire.

Maybe they could visit various countries that way, by getting on the carpet and coming off, quick scene change and hey presto! That looked very imaginative for an awards ceremony, the 'Under the Sea' performance looked nice too.

I like the idea of ALADDIN as a musical.
NLB definately works as the genie for me as does Lea for Jasmine. Its almost perfect..
I am personally waiting for CINDERELLA. The disney adaption. Im surprised it hasnt happened. Or what about POCAHONTAS, HUNCHBACK, and HERCULES. Expecially POCAHONTAS. It just feels like a natural transition to make it a musical for me. Then again, LITTLE MERMAID seemed that way, too and look how it turned out (not too good.)
However, I am glad that SNOW WHITE hasnt made it to the stage.
Whats everyone's opinions on CINDERELLA, POCAHONTAS, HUNCHBACK, and HERCULES?(I'm curious...)
