Interesting. Has anyone ever seen him do dramatic work (as opposed to comedy)? I loved him in Buyer & Cellar as well as The Government Inspector, but those were both comedies. Still, this definitely piques my curiosity.

He's a Juilliard-trained actor, and before he broke out on Ugly Betty, he was working primarily in classical theater. He was also astonishing in Angels in America, which isn't exactly light comedy. He's got the chops (and then some) to be a brilliant Hamlet.

Plus, if you don't have a Hamlet that can be funny (witty, what have you), it's gonna be a looooooooooong night.

He's also doing the revamped Torch Song Trilogy at 2nd Stage which, while funny, requires some heavy lifting, too.

Good to hear! I didn't about all of that (well, I knew he was going to do Torch Song, but I forgot). And yes, I agree his style of humor will fit well with Hamlet's lighter moments.

Michael was also quite good in a gay-themes play that ran at New World Stages a few years ago. The title was something like THE UNQUESTIONABLE.

I saw many of his classical non comedy roles when he was a student at Julliard, the faculty of which chose him as the best classical actor in his group (with plenty of competition). He will be an exceptional Hamlet.

i too loved Michael in BUYER & CELLAR at the Mark Taper Forum, and thought he was brilliant...and if Mel Gibson can do Hamlet then for sure this smart actor can do!

I think this is potentially a great career move for someone who is typically a little too typecast.
