In the first teaser trailer we see a quick clip of OUT TONIGHT. Mimi is wearing a multi-colored bra, pink panties and a black garter belt.
In the International trailer we see her in a black bra, black panties and fishnets.
In the second trailer we see her with that same outfit swinging on a pole.
Did they film the Cat Scratch club sequence twice using both costumes? I'm now only seeing clips and photos of Mimi wearing the black stripper outfit.
Does anybody else miss the gray top/blue leather pants and black arm bands?
A part of me wishes they would have at least kept that costume for the fire escape sequence of OUT TONIGHT.
Any thoughts?
I thought they did?
Maybe I'm confused -- I know the pants will be in the movie, but maybe not in the OT sequence.
I think what she has on makes sense -- and on stage, she had to wear whatever she'd wear out later, which couldn't be a stripper costume because that's werid, and the actress wouldn't have time to change.
Anyway, I'm confused. But whatever it is.

She wears multiple outfits for that song. There is also a scene during "Out Tonight" where she is walking out of the Cat Scratch Club and dancing across the street. She's wearing a cheetah-print jacket of sorts and pants (if I remember correctly).
The blue pants do come in during the "Happy New Year" scene though, so they weren't cut completely.

I still wish they'd kept that outfit for that scene... the lights hitting the vinyl created the coolest effect.

No.
Not that I'm boiling down the importance of that scene to a costume but for posterity's sake I wish they would have used something similar to the original stage costume for the sequence where she's singing on the fire escape.
I wonder if she does bar work on the fire escape?

I think she wears the blue pants during the New Year's Eve scenes. I thought I saw a picture of that somewhere...
Yes she does, but I wish she would have worn them for the OT sequence instead.
The way I look at it, after the stage version is long gone this will be the only version of the show people will get to see until it's ultimately revived on stage.
So what you're saying is you want the movie to be EXACTLY the same as the stage show then?
I'm a bit anxious to see what the choreography of the scene is.
I don't know why everyone is so keen on having the movie's costumes duplicate the costumes at the Nederlander. The costumes on stage are one person's designs, and the movie's designer should have the right to express their own ideas.
Besides, its not like these costumes(Mimi's blue pants, Roger's plaid pants, etc.) are needed by any means. They are not referred to, and it was just a design choice from 1996.(or whenever the designs were actually done)
And c'mon, are these costumes so iconic that our opinions and hopes for the movie hinge on them? They're not so iconic as say, Annie's red dress or Dorothy's blue checkered dress.(both of which have been altered, and/or not adhered to)
I think that as long as they keep the costumes in the spirit of the stage show, I don't mind that they're not exactly the same.

Do we honestly need a new thread for every small complaint of the film?
We need one big thread called "RENT MOVIE COMPLAINTS - because not everything is the same as the stage show"
So what you're saying is you want the movie to be EXACTLY the same as the stage show then?
No.
BSoBW2, this thread wasn't a complaint. I posted it because it was something that just crossed my mind. Why do yo uhave to be so negative? Nowhere in my posts have I expressed negativity in any way, shape or form.
You and Pinaud need to seriously CHILL OUT.

from the script it sounded like "Out Tonight" is now a big hoochie strip number.
