I wish I hadn't bought my seasons pass this year, and I don't know what Mirvish will have to offer next year to get me to pay up... especially since I don't trust them anymore to actually have the plays they advertise. I also hate that a few of the shows this year are playing the Royal Alexandra... I'm in the cheap seats and wow is it ever uncomfortable up there.
I guess at least Rock of Ages is something different not based on a Disney movie... not sure if it'll get me to go or not though.
Not gonna lie. I really enjoyed Rock of Ages. It made for a fun night out. Nothing more. Nothing less. What I hated the most about it was the audience. The audience was overly rowdy (and some even got drunk during the show). Another negative was the fact that they had someone walking around the theatre selling beer DURING the show. Other than that, this is leaps and bounds above WWRY.
My first reaction was to groan at Rock of Ages but PastorErnst is right, it is at least FAR better than WWRY (or even Shrek for that matter). It's not a great musical but at least the Broadway cast put all their energies to make it silly fun.
Still, I would be hoping for something better to come, especially considering we still haven't had In The Heights or Xanadu. (And I'd rather have WWS or Hair come through).
I dont think that is the line up at all.. 101 Dalmations has been cancelled.. Wicked IS coming back again as well I heard actually as a subscription show possibly this time.
Wallybag, Even though Mirvish had made an announcement about them wanting to bring Billy Elliot, I don't think it's going to happen this coming season. If they're producing God of Carnage AND Joseph AND co-producing Forum and maybe Wicked, where would they put Billy Elliot? It doesn't work out. IT's either Wicked or Billy Elliot. Maybe- God of Carnage- Panasonic- spring '11-? Joseph- Royal Alex- Summer '11 after ROA Forum- Canon- winter '10 Limited Engagement Wicked- Princess- '10 ALL OTHER TOURS- Canon and Panasonic BEFORE GOC
Possible Tours: Mary Poppins Xanadu Shrek the Musical
Rock of Ages isnt going to be going anywhere soon.. so the royal alex is out, unless the pull a rock you and eventually move the show to the panasonic and put Joseph in the Royal Alex, but i dont see that happening for at least a year..
Who knows about Joseph... there has also been rumours about the new wizard of oz that Webber is doing in London.. I dont think Mary Poppins is going around here until 2011 atleast on their tour schedule
I saw Mary Poppins in London, really didn't like it although the staging was beautiful. I was hoping it wasn't going to make a Toronto stop. I thought Billy Elliot was opening in Chicago? Has it even been announced on tour?
cherios, (I've never seen the show, but even if its not the best show, I would still put money on Mirvish bring it to Toronto. Its a well know show, and it is a family show. Therefore, there will be a lot of money made on either end.
Just like when The Little Mermaid tour goes out, it will probably come to Toronto because it, again, is a well known film/show, and it will bring in (usually/hopefully) more than 2 tickets.
i spoke to someone at burn the floor on broadway, and they said they are coming to toronto in april for 2 weeks to play the canon theater. it seemed pretty certain, as they mentioned the specific theater they were going to be at - and they weren't familiar with toronto...
i guess this isn't part of the subscription series but maybe an additional show?
According to the article about "Catch Me If You Can" possibly coming to Toronto, it also mentions that "Forum" would possibly play the Royal Alex. I thought "Rock Of Ages" was open-ended? Is the thing about "Forum" just jumping the gun?
a) Aubrey Dan has money in Wicked. I'm sure he's trying to do everything he can to prevent Mirvish from presenting it again now that he has a production company. b) What is up with "Forum" at the Alex next December? Maybe a transfer of Rock of Ages to the Panasonic?
That'd make sense. Put ROA in the Alex til you recoup (easier in a bigger house), then transfer it to a more intimate setting to sell out easier, and run longer.
Apparently Mirvish is relaunching its website Tuesday. Maybe an announcement about the new season will come with? Or at least an announcement about when they're going to announce it?
