re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

In the Heights is also on tour, but it's likely to be snatched up by Dancap since they invest in the show.

There is also the touring production of The Wizard of Oz. They could do Wicked and The Wizard Of Oz running one after another.
Would sell tickets.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

Considering The Wizard of Oz tour was just at Mississauga's Living Arts Centre at the beginning of January, I highly doubt it will be returning to the area any time soon.

Hello Canada, from London, UK.

What is Dancap?

Hope you get Priscilla this season and Billy Elliot and Sister Act comes, in the next 2 years.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

Dancap Productions is a company producing theatre in Toronto, competing with David Mirvish. Dancap is currently the company producing Jersey Boys in Toronto and they are bringing the revival of South Pacific this summer.

I really hope Priscilla finally comes to fruition. We have been waiting for it quite some time now. It would also be really great to get Billy Elliot in town but that doesn't look like it will be happening anytime soon.

it will be interesting to see what else dancap brings in for their summer series.
jersey boys extended until may.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

So, if Billy Elliot comes, it will probably come in the POW. I predict it will come in the Spring after Priscilla will have left the POW.
If God of Carnage comes it will probably go to the Panasonic and have a pretty long run.
I think we will have to wait for Wicked to come after Billy Elliot leaves the POW. Canon will house the touring shows and the RA will house ROA for as long as it does well. I think the RA is too small for Wicked.

Touring Options:
According to Broadway Across America the touring productions for this year that Toronto hasn't seen are:
West Side Story
Hair
Shrek
Xanadu
Mary Poppins
Dreamgirls

Thoughts?

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

The Little Mermaid's tour will probably end up here in 2011.
I don't know why, but I just have a gut feeling that Mary Poppins won't come this far north.
I think that if Wicked comes back, it would end up back in the Canon again. Just my $0.02.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

mirvish always has a few family friendly shows in the season. mary poppins has been rumoured for awhile but who knows.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

I thought PRISCILLA was a definite for October?

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

I'm not sure, but I thought there was a question of Mirvish having a theatre that can accomodate the Priscilla stage rig. Plus, hasn't it been announced for broadway now? That may have changed things for Toronto.

I'm surprised Mirvish hasn't even announced when they're going to announce the next seasons line up. Don't they usually do it around Ground Hog Day? Maybe they're still not sure...

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

I think it is Toronto prior to Broadway.
#64

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

@cherios: Last year the lineup was announced on Feb 18.

Correcting myself: The announcement was on Feb 16. The emails I got were dated Feb 18, though.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

The London production of Pricilla, Queen of the Desert The Musical, which will celebrate its first anniversary at the West End's Palace Theatre March 23, has announced that it has extended booking through Feb. 26, 2011.

The show will also open at Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre Oct. 12, with plans for a Broadway transfer to open in early 2011.

All I can say is... FINALLY!

i thought it would be open ended?
lets hope nothing changes and it really does come. thanks.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

Great you guys have got Priscilla, I am not over keen on it, but loads on the West End Board are.

Not sure Broadway would like to be 4th in line, after Australia - West End - Toronto!

This is not a family friendly show, but sure you guys will have fun with it.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

Something fishy up with this Season why do date has been set for the Subscription Season. This is very unusual.
#69

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

I agree. Normally Mirvish would have at least said that there was going to be a 'big announcement' on such and such a day - I was expecting that to be alluded to in this week's eStage, especially since it was a day late. No such luck.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

I believe Mary Poppins is billed as a "North American Tour". There is no doubt in my mind that it will come to Toronto at some point. Like I've said before, Mirvish has strong ties with Disney after Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King had long runs in the city.

The only shows we can place a bet on are the three that are "confirmed" (more or less):
Priscilla
Forum
God Of Carnage

Shows that will make it to Toronto (at some point) with the help of Mirvish:
The Little Mermaid
Mary Poppins
*IDK why, but I would think Hair*

Others:
In The Heights: Dancap has money in the show

Xanadu: I always thought Dancap had been looking at the show, because at one point it was the only show touring (along with ITH) that there were no rumours with Mirvish

Shrek: It could come, with who? I have no idea.

9 to 5: It could go anywhere.

BTW: Next to Normal is heading out on tour...Dancap or Mirvish?

P.S. I don't think Joseph is the near future if Rock of Ages is coming
#71

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

We would know if Joseph was coming because CBC would have announced the related TV show casting the lead like SoM.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

And to add to fashionguru's list two posts above:
Billy Elliot
Wicked

Both at some unknown point in the future...
#74

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011

I forgot to add...

Catch Me If You Can was rumoured at one point. If Rebecca comes to T.O., I think it would be amazing and have a good chance of then taking Broadway.

re: Mirvish 2010 / 2011
