I only saw him in the telecast but was somewhat disappointed with his voice. Wish it had been a stronger casting choice...

I, for one, am very excited for this.

When people ask, "Why him?" The answer seems very clear to me. The cinecast was a huge success, and many people will want to see that cast live. It also makes selling DVDs easier for the same reason.

I don't mind admitting that I am one of those people who enjoys owning a DVD of the cast I actually saw. This is about as close to that as I can get. Plus, I enjoyed the chemistry that Eva and Alistair had on the big screen, and I am excited to see that energy live on stage.

Super disappointed in this. I was hoping for Chris Peluso. I didn't like what I heard from Alistair at all. Then again I didn't like Simon Bowman either.

The Chris is saw was the incredible Matthew Dickens(RIP). I also saw Eva's aunt as Kim so it will be fun to see Eva now some 24yrs later. Can't wait to see Rachelle,Jon Jon and Katie Rose in their respective roles though.

they couldn't choose from one of literally hundreds of appropriate men who appear on Broadway frequently??

I agree, it works in 2 ways. The broadcast/dvd will be a huge marketing tool. That poster of Alistair and Eva can be seen all over the world at the moment. It makes it feel much more like the "same thing" for audiences.

And people who have seen the show would love to buy a dvd/blu ray of the cast they actually saw.

On what ground is he not "appropriate"? It seems some people are not happy with him simply because he is not citizen of the United States, which is ridiculous and pathetic. This sort of jingoism is exactly the reason Trump has garnered such a swollen diehard following. If this is not the case, I wonder why you don't use "talented," which is more specific and personally easier to come up with given the intended expression of Alistair being a lackluster Chris.

Terrible choice, and it has nothing to do with his nationality. His voice just isn't very good. At all.

I just saw the 25th Anniversary in the theatre last night.  I know next season is going to be brimming full with talent, but I already see Jon Jon Briones taking home a Tony.... what a performance!  And while I agree that Alistair Brammer's voice is not my favourite, I think there was great chemistry between him and Eva and I'm glad to see the cast stay together.   Have my ticket for May and really looking forward to see this irl.

Are they doing encore screenings of the anniversary filming? I guess I missed that.

yes!  I think it made its rounds through the theatres last month in the US - we're a little behind in Canada. Very well filmed - the best part is at the end when Lea Salonga, comes out and surprises the audience, along with Jonathan Pryce and Simon Bowman.  They reprise their roles and sing with the present cast of Eva, Alistair and Jon Jon.  I believe its also out on Blu-ray.  Maybe it will makes its way on Netflix one day - or Broadwayhd.com

So sorry about this! he is certainly not a west end name or even name in the UK and they would have struggled to find a review of the London show which praised him or didnt list him as the weakest link. Will be interesting reading what the Broadway reviewers say even if they are not meant to be as powerful as before.

The filmed show was very much retooled and directed and made a far stronger performance than seeing it live and made his role passable - honestly wait until he goes and see it with the replacement

At least you are getting Jon Jon who power levels were the same live as in the film - has equity gone soft or something - considering the many publicized battles in the past with real stars and blockbuster performances going to both sides of the Atlantic which were blocked - now it doesn't seem to worry as long as its a one to one swap.

I actually thought he was the 1 castmember who was better live than on the film. When I saw him live he made more natural choices in both acting and singing.

I can only judge him by what I saw on film--and had no complaints about anything--great eye candy, loved the voice and its intensity and he acted up a storm with a convincing melt-down at the end.

Live on stage--no idea, but certainly will buy the DVD.
