When will the show open? All I've ever read is spring 2017. I see group sales is open; however, I don't see which dates are available. Any sense as to when individual or smaller group sales will open? It's a closed broadway run before hitting the road on tour early 2018. Although auditions were in January 2016, still no mention of who has been cast as Chris, John, Ellen, etc.
What do you mean by "closed Broadway run"?
And no, those performers have not been announced.

I think he/she means limited run.

Hi LizzieCurry. By closed, I mean that it is a limited engagement run, ending January 18, 2018. It's not an open run, in which case a show's closing date has not been determined.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It's not an open-ended run. I didn't realize it wasn't open-ended, but I guess it will likely extend the way his Les Miz revivals extend.

Thanks RW3. I probably wasn't using the correct terminology. :)

OK, that makes sense.

I wish that were true, jimmycurry, but I get the impression that it's DONE on Jan. 18/18 and then packing up to tour.
It will be extended. When the London revival announced its closing date, they advertised it like the last extension or something like this. By the way, group tickets (20+) went on sale earlier today, so they have probably had a theater in mind already.

I hope it does get extended, thanks Dancingthrulife2. I saw the show in '97 (when I was in high school) and it's been one of my favorites, every since. I now see that group tickets can be purchased for performance dates beginning April 17/17.

It likely ends up at the Broadway, back where it began...

So curious why we haven't heard about Chris. I hope it means they are working on something big (Tveit or Jordan)
It sounds like they are still negotiating the contract for their Chris choice, which does lead some credence that it might be someone at the level of Tveit or Jordan.
I don't see how Jeremy Jordan could possibly be in the running, given Supergirl. Tveit seems like a more plausible choice, although he mentioned in a recent interview that he likes the more normal schedule television offers.

Jordan's role in Supergirl is so small - and they made it work for Laura. I want this to happen so badly, so it may just be wishful thinking on my part...
Well part of a contract negotiation would be coordinating working around a television schedule. It might not be either of these people, but its most assuredly a contract negotiation that is stalling the announcement.

I don't know anything about who has been cast, but I'm confused why people seem to have convinced themselves it's Aaron or Jeremy. We have tons of leading MT men who are right for this.

Supergirl shoots in Vancouver. That's a bit of commute. But as neon says, I'm really not sure why these two names seem to be the only two people are mentioning, based on evidence that could generously be called scant.

Another possibility, and justification for a delay in an announcement, is Corey Cott. Perhaps they're waiting until The Bandstand is officially dead.
And I think the focus on Tveit and Jordon may be because both have terrific performances of Why God Why that are out there for people to listen to, and whoever gets the role is going to be measured against those performances. That's a pretty high bar.
Sometimes an actor (especially one in a small role) is able to negotiate a TV contract to have all their scenes filmed in a one week block. Or filmed only on a certain day of the week. etc. That's how many actors have made doing Broadway and filming a TV show work historically. So in theory, It's really not inconceivable for someone like Jordan to make both work (if he has the cooperation of the network and the producers of the Broadway show since he'd likely have to miss scattered performances for filming).

Jordan's situation is also unique in that the nature of his show gives the writers a lot of latitude in how to make his character disappear for a time and reappear next season. Based on last night's episode, it appears that they are already doing that with Calista Flockhart, who prefers to stay in L.A. rather than move to Vancouver.
Jordan spoke in a recent interview about renting an apartment in Vancouver, which led me to believe that he'd have a substantial role in the new season. I suppose that remains to be seen, but I wouldn't assume that he'll be on Broadway anytime soon. I could be wrong.
