I would probably say Light in the Piazza or The Woman in White
re: Most Beautiful Score you have ever heard#1
Posted: 4/10/06 at 9:34pmIt depends. I mean my favorite score is probably The Last 5 Years, but is that beautiful? I'd have to say Ragtime though. It's almost perfect for me.

Sorry for the threadjack, but I need this settled. I have heard talk of Ragtime since I first joined. However, I've wanted to buy it yet never have because I go to Tower Records and there are 2 versions of it. One looks newer with I think the Statue of Liberty on it? And the other looks very older. Now are they the same or different versions or one off broadway?
Sorry if it sounded stupid, I just was always interested and unsure of any differences or of which one to buy

The Original Broadway Cast Recording of Ragtime is the two-disc one that has a blue background with the Statue of Liberty on it. There's a concept recording that has an offwhite background with the Statue of Liberty. Those are to my knowledge the only cast recordings of the musical (right?). Get the OBCR. "Ragtime" is also a musical genre, so I'm sure there are a lot of similarly-titled things, and maybe a soundtrack to the movie.
Anyway, my answer to the question is Ragtime.

You want to buy the 2 disc Original Broadway Cast with a blue sleeve witht the Statue of Liberty on the front.
There is another release called "Songs from Ragtime" which features almost the same cast but only one disc. Plus it lacks some of the numbers that were inserted between Toronto and Broadway.
There is also a film soundtrack if I recall? Thats not what you want to buy lol
Oh and my most beautiful score would have to be one of the following.....
A Little Night Music
The Light in the Piazza
Sunday in the Park with George

Thank you all so much, yeah you hit it on the head, a faded white one which was the concept and the newer looking one with the Statue of Liberty on it.
Tomorrow I will head over there and buy the nice Audra/Marin/BSM 2 disc set :) Thanks everyone again!
And as for beautiful scores, I think that overall Sunday in the Park with George is just a gorgeous piece as a whole, some of Sweeney is very touching, more than I would expect judging from other parts.
Caroline or Change and Cabaret also have some hauntingly beautiful, yet dark stuff as well
