I also say the Light in the Piazza because the score is simply gorgeous.
And also Ragtime.

Without doubt, the most beautiful score I have EVER heard is Kristina Fran Duvemala. It leaves me breathless, I just adore it! It will probably not do too well on broadway as it is an 80s style epic (á la Les Mis, Miss Saigon), but it is so wonderful I hope it does succeed.
Second best is Ragtime, and third is Light in the Piazza.

Posted: 4/11/06 at 1:31pmAt the risk of sounding biased and/or cliche, The Phantom of the Opera. It's my #1 favorite, but there isn't one melody in it that I don't like (yeah, they repeat). Other musicals, I usually pick and choose with even though I love them, too. Including my other Webber fave, The Woman in White.

Most beautiful score? Light in the Piazza
My favorite score, however, is Ragtime.

The Light in the Piazza -- just for the sheer beauty of the music. It's really art music, and it'sso melodic and written so thoughtfully.
MJL's The Wild Party -- it manages to stay true to the era while telling the story thru the music itself
Aspects of Love -- I don't really like ALW or this plot, but I think the music (however reprised it is) is beutiful

Posted: 4/11/06 at 1:40pmI used to think Carousel, Aspects, and Phantom were my favorites. But of late it has changed to Phantom and Woman In White. I think the Phantasia cd had something to do with it. It is beautiful.

These are all scores that put me into a dreamy sort of trance when I listen to them. They are auditory poetry.

Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
