Most Disappointing Show You've Ever Seen

So what show did you wait for, obsess about, get ultra excited, and then see it, and hate it or feel completely underwhelmed?

For me: Dessa Rose. So much potential, but I nearly fell asleep from boredom.

i was so excited about my fair lady and then saw it and it was just dull

I still love the movie though!

i didnt obsess about it, but i didnt like my fair lady. i wasnt sure id like parts of it, but little did i know i would be able to understand about 10 minutes of act 1.

In my opinion..

The Lion King. Everyone raved about it for years, and I finally went to the broadway production and had to hit myself in the head with my playbill to stay awake.

Miss Saigon. And it sounded so good on disc. Sorry, But this one was the worst stinker for me, I know a lot of you are devotees but I didn't get anything except Johnathon Pryce & a Helicopter for my Money.

jimmirae --- That's pretty funny! I actually had the exact opposite experience with Saigon. I thought the cast album was dull and repetetive, and I heard that first. Then when I finally saw the production, I liked the show so much more.

I actually liked it better than Les Mis, overall. Which I never thought would happen.

I went into Les Mis knowing the full London Recording and I was mesmerized by the Original Broadway Cast, But Miss Saigon lost me just after Kim started developing as a character. I KNOW I am seemingly the only one who didn't care for this one (Except an old friend I saw looking ill at intermission when I said "Time to go back in, Maybe it gets Better!" he replied "Must we?") Sorry folks, I suppose it's like Dolly Levi once said "Horace, You salt your beets and I'll salt mine", LOL!

I'm going to have to agree about The Lion King. I mean, the costumes and sets were pretty cool, but other than that, meh.

The first act of fiddler on the roof (not the current revival). I saw it on tour and i just did not like that first act. It was in part to my blood sugar being low and me being very tired so during intermission i got some M&M's then everything was better!

i was really looking forward to it when i bought my tickets.
it just looked like a kool show, then as we all know....

Honestly now, I was probably most disappointed in Wicked...I very much had the same story as MusicalMan2....Everyone just raved about it, and literally, i was either reading the playbill(which anyone that knows me, knows that's when i'm bored to tears with a show) or hitting myself with it. I've bought some pretty expensive meals(that were just BAD) for my friends and I , but honestly, WICKED was the worst $107.00 I ever spent

I didn't obsess about it but I did look forward to seeing FAME. It was, without a doubt, the worst show I've ever seen and the only show where I was sorely tempted to leave at intermission.

WIW was a close second.

Both had some great reviews, lots of Tonys, everyone else loved them. I hated them both.

The Lion King, The Producers, Avenue Q and Spamalot :

The Lion King - the whole concept was quite incredible, but I just found it to be incredibly heartless. The Circle of Life got me very excited - I thought it was sensational. It just went straight downhill from there.

The Producers - I just couldn't understand the hype, and I saw it with Nathan Lane!

Avenue Q - I loved the cast recording, but the show was just a nothing for me.

Spamalot - the worst show I've ever seen - I hated it.

I agree with Wicked. I just saw it this summer, and I knew all the songs and was really looking forward to it. And...it was mediocre.

And to go the other way, the shows that I wasn't as excited about seeing and ended up absolutely loving...Light in the Piazza and Spelling Bee.

I'm going to have to second that about Spamalot. Probably one of the worst shows I have ever seen and I saw the OBC. I felt like I was at a Forbidden Broadway performance. It was a huge let down.. then of course the Lion King.

All of you hate the musicals that run forever but really like the one's that no one has heard of!

I think you just dont want to like the bg musicals because everyone else does. and you want to be all artsy fartsy

Come on people you just say that to be different and to get attention

I have to vote for Avenue Q. And I saw it and had this opinion right after it opened (I had no clue about anything regarding Wicked). I did like it but I just was disapointed. All the raves it had garnered confused me and by time I left, I felt like it didn't deserve the loads of raves it got. It was good but not as great as some people make it out to be.

I think it's best to ignore the critics....most of the shows i hated got rave reviews. I went to see other shows expecting them to be terrible such as "La Cage","Bombay Dreams" or "Wonderful Town" and ended up loving them.

One is Hairspray. I bought the CD after it won so many Tony Awards, and wanted to see it immediately. When I saw it, I thought it was okay. I like it better now, but back then, I thought it was the type of show for Saturday matinees.
