How many musicals have mother/daughter story lines?
Off the top of my head I can only think of
Rose and Louise in GYPSY *The best*
Madame Armfeldt and Desiree
Desiree and Fredrika
in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC
ANNA and Angel in THE RINK
Edith Bouvier Beale and Little Edie Beale in GREY GARDENS
Margaret and Clara in THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
Carmen and Elaine/Bambi in CURTAINS. I think this counts. Though the whole story line between the two is more of a subplot.
I know there's lots more. What else? I'm just curious because I find a lot of those shows/relationships very touching.

There's always SPRING AWAKENING...if that underdeveloped aspect of the story can even be considered a relationsup.

I think Mrs. MacAfee and Kim in BYE BYE BIRDIE kind of counts.
Carrie
Into the Woods
Can't leave out CARRIE!

Donna and Sophie in MAMMA MIA!
Charlotte and Lolita - Lolita, My Love
HAIRSPRAY
Oh, ones a Man, does that count?

Whoa! How did we not think of HAIRSPRAY until Curtain mentioned it!
BERNARDA ALBA
CAROLINE, OR CHANGE (One of my favorite mother/daughter relationships in a musical)
SHOW BOAT
And in a way SONG & DANCE where though the mom character doesn't appear, she plays a significant role in Emma's decisions, journey, and failures.
THE SOUND OF MUSIC
In Avenue Q Kate Monster and Brian's wife who's name I can't remember have some aproximation of a mother daughter relationship.
Bernarda Alba is all about mother daughter relationships.
Little Women
I think "Carrie" touches on that somewhat.
Yeah...CARRIE is a stretch, but I suppose it still touches on the subject enough to merit a mention.
- Marie Christine (Marie and her mother)
- Bernarda Alba (Mother and 5 daughters)

Rose and Mary in The Secret Garden
Mrs. Phagan and Mary in Parade ("My Child Will Forgive Me" especially)
I don't agree with Carrie being a stretch. It is the core relationship in the show. Unlike other show mentioned so far where the mother/daughter relationship is secondary. Including the show I mentioned, Lolita, my Love.
Sarcasm, fatty. Sarcasm.
Ah.. how precious.

i think the more obivous choice is Bernarda Alba...Bernarda and her mother and bernarda and her five daughters.
