Motown/ Christmas Story#1
Posted: 9/23/12 at 9:53amLooks like Motown is moving into the Lunt Fontanne?
Motown/ Christmas Story#2
Posted: 9/23/12 at 10:38amYeah, I just watched them take down the marquis for Christmas Story and put up all the Motown stuff. Ticket sales for Motown began today, and they have a big group sales presentation later this week, so maybe it has something to do with that? Bizarre.
Motown/ Christmas Story#2
Posted: 9/23/12 at 10:52amDoes that mean that the box office is selling tickets for both shows, simultaneously?

No, they're selling Motown online. The BO isn't open for that yet.
ETA: Ok, mystery solved. We asked. They're filming a commercial. The Christmas Story marquis will be back up on Tuesday.

Marquee = the sign above a theatre.
Marquis = title for a nobleman. Also the name of a hideous theatre and light-blocking soul-crushing hotel on Broadway between 45th and 46th Street.

Posted: 9/23/12 at 11:19amyeah, my bad. English is a second language, I get mixed up a lot. Also, I'm hungover. And dumb.

Posted: 9/23/12 at 11:45amThanks for asking, and for the clarification on ticket sales!
Motown/ Christmas Story#9
Posted: 9/23/12 at 4:04pmIs a Christmas story no longer playing during the Christmas season? I thought Motown would put it's marquee up after A Christmas Story moved out. Or is this just a really good photoshop job?
Motown/ Christmas Story#10
Posted: 9/23/12 at 4:08pmIt's already been said that the Motown marquees were being put up temporarily to film a commercial. Everything will be restored back to A Christmas Story on Tuesday.
Motown/ Christmas Story#11
Posted: 9/23/12 at 4:32pmThat Motown marquee looks like the artwork my local dinner theatre used for their production Smoke On The Mountain. Hideous.
Motown/ Christmas Story#12
Posted: 9/23/12 at 4:37pmLooks like the guys who were hanging the banners didn't know how to spell MOTOWN. The 'W' is being hung on the wrong pole.
Motown/ Christmas Story#14
Posted: 9/23/12 at 5:35pmThey've been hanging that thing since 10 am today, and messed up about 3 times. They FINALLY got the letters in the right order. Looks hideous.
Motown/ Christmas Story#15
Posted: 9/23/12 at 6:14pmI just can't get over how damn ugly the artwork is.
Motown/ Christmas Story#16
Posted: 9/23/12 at 7:11pmIt's actually a Chrysler Commercial with Berry Gordon with a MOTOWN tie-in filming all day Monday.

The first letter went up at about 8 am today. then they just stopped until 10 am.
funny to watch.
Motown/ Christmas Story#18
Posted: 9/24/12 at 11:03amThat marquee is hideous.
Motown/ Christmas Story#19
Posted: 9/24/12 at 11:21amWhat did they WON?

For those describing the logo as 'hideous,' are you aware that it's the same logo that was used for years for Motown Records? I think for anyone 40+ (certainly the prime target audience of MOTOWN The Musical), the logo provides an instant recognition factor and it makes total sense to use it.
Motown/ Christmas Story#22
Posted: 9/25/12 at 12:27pmIt's hard to believe that they paid to have the Christmas Story marquee taken down, the Motown marquee put up, taken down, the Christmas Story marquee put back up, and then eventually have the Motown marquee put back up again when Christmas Story closes. Wouldn't it have been easier to digitally add the Motown marquee in post?

^ But that's too logical. Always go for the nonsensical way for better comedy and story.
Motown/ Christmas Story#24
Posted: 9/25/12 at 1:06pmWhat's with "The Little Mermaid" sign on the side of the theatre? Has that been there since the show closed?
