Now i know that some people on here seem to think that Broadway is the centre of the world and determins if a show is a hit or a flop
But
The post was about which stage show versions of movies flopped etc It did not mention Broadway.
So actually Legally Blonde the musical and film was a hit. Legally Blonde only lost some money on Broadway after a healthy run, however touring and the huge UK hit production would mean the show is a hit.
The same for Footloose, even though it ran for over 700 performances on Broadway it still did not recoup. However the tour did very well and went in to the black and the european productions especially the UK tour and West End production were brig hits.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
Likewise, I don't think A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC was a huge hit its first time around.
Moving on....
WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND -- WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND (Flop)

songanddanceman2, Broadway was implied. According to you, a movie that has a dismal run in theaters but makes most of its money (recoups and then some) on DVDs/Blu-ray is still therefore a hit. No, it's not. If it bombs at the box office it's still a bomb. DVD/Blu-ray sales and other merchandise don't figure into the equation.
ETA: Yes, there's the whole synergy thing, but for all intents and purposes LEGALLY BLONDE and FOOTLOOSE flopped on Broadway.

I knew a pissy Legally Blonde fan would be the first to whine about the flop designation. Give it up, it failed on Broadway, that's what counts.
If you count tours, CDs, DVDs, revivals, London productions and licensing fees, Sondheim hasn't had a flop yet, but his fans don't throw tantrums every time someone calls his shows flops.

The original production of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC returned its investment and made a modest profit after 601 performances, so it was a hit.
SUGAR ran over a year and still lost money, so it was a flop.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
Inarguable: THE RETURN OF MARTIN GUERRE --- MARTIN GUERRE--flop

^^^ The CRY-BABY movie wasn't a hit. It had a budget of $12 million and only grossed $8 million.
But if you count video/DVD/soundtrack sales/rentals from the past two decades then it most certainly made its money back and made a hefty profit. :-P

Re: Victor/Victoria, the show - I doubt that a 734 performance run and an abbreviated tour count as a hit. It's difficult to imagine the investors saw profit. And the critical reception certainly wasn't good.

I'm not a huge fan of LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL.. But I do think it just may have recouped and been a 'hit' if it played in a smaller Broadway house, versus the cavernous Palace.
