I am just writing to let everyone know I was assualted and mugged today on my way to see Coram Boy. This happened on 45th St between 8th and 9th at 7:45 pm. The person was caught and is in Jail but this is just a reminder it can happen to anyone so please be careful and keep cell phones and ipods out of sight especially when walking by yourself! I am safe which is the most important but my phone, wallet and subway card were stolen. As well as my ticket to Coram Boy in my Wallet, and I would have missed the show anyway! I am really upset I had to miss that... it wasn't even a Comp!!! Please be safe because I never thought it would happen in the middle of the day around a million people but it sure did!
So glad you're safe. Happy to hear it.
Wow - thats pretty scary, and highly unusual for the theatre district at show time. Can you go into any more details about how it happened?

Wow, that really pulls some reality into my sense of security I usually get in the theater district. Glad you are okay and can talk about the incident after it being so recent. I'd probably be too anxiety ridden by now to think about it!
That sucks
Did you try to explain that to the Box office?
i'm sure you were too shaken up

Hey Guys thanks for your kind words... I will go in to more details later if people want to know but I have had to tell the story about 20 times to various police, detectives, etc today so I don't really feeling going through it anymore. I just wanted to get this out there right away so people can be safe! Thanks again, and I am getting a phone in the mail on Thursday because they didn't find it on him when they caught him. So then life will be more back to normal! Take care!

I haven't had a chance to go to the box office. This happened at 7:45 and I got out of the Police station at 11:00. Do you think they will do anything? I do really want to see the show!

Talk to the BO, maybe they can exchange your tickets - or past date.
This is a lesson to all. Doors open at 7:30. Be there at 7:25.

Wow, thank goodness you're ok. Thanks for the heads up. I have a friend in from Chicago this week staying at a B&B on 46th between 8th and 9th. I've forwarded this to her so she'll see it when she checks her email tomorrow.
I'm really sorry this happened to you, hope you're feeling better and that you get your phone soon. What can one do to prevent something like this though? The scary part is that you were among people in a safe area at a safe time...Makes me feel unsafe about roaming the streets of NYC by myself at late hours.

Wow...this is really scary. I walk alone by myself when I'm in the city all the time. Glad to hear you are okay and that they caught the guy.
Wow, that's really scary! I'm so glad you're okay. I hope you feel better.

same thing happened to me about 5 years ago......just a piece of advice so that you can get justice.......go to court, if the DA talks to you about a plea bargin be assertive and say no way, let the scum bag go to jail.......there will be many delays but keep the faith insist on your victim's right's. I did....it turned out the bad guy had about 8 other arrests and the DA wanted to have him plea and get a year......I was insistant that I would not go along with anything like that.......The DA went forward with it anyway but then I had an opportunity to give a victim impact statement to the judge.....he go 15 years......hope he dies in prison......it was the worse night of my life, worse than a bad review
That's terrible. Maybe you could write a letter to the House Manager or the Company Manager letting them know what happened.
But I am glad you're okay.

Again Guys thanks for your well wishes! I am ok... Just a little shaken and not too excited to hit the streets of new york alone again today. I have lived here for 2 years and nothing like this has happened until now so I should just get over it!
In Response to BsoBW(whatever)... Do Muggings only happen at 7:45? Being earlier for a show prevents that? I know you didn't mean anything by your comment but I think a mugging can happen anytime even I went to the theatre at 7:25.
This thread reeks of something... Can't quite place it.
I am sorry that happened. Someone picked my wallet at a show a few months ago at the theater and I didn't find out about it till I went to buy dinner. It is the worst feeling being violated. I will never put my bag on the floor anymore and am very paranoid.
Sad but true.
I lost my entire check, I had just cashed it.
Sucks!
Even worse, it happened at Forbidden Broadway.

Several years ago my friend's wallet was stolen at the RENT lottery. That taught me to keep my bag in front of my body, not slung over a shoulder, when I'm at a lottery. The way they make lotto entrants gather in a big clump makes it a prime situation for pick pocketers.
YEESH! That's my neighborhood. Sorry to hear this happened to you.
It was YOU, wasn't it Borstal?!
Borstalboy with the candlestick on 8th.
Seriously though, glad you weren't hurt and thanks for the reminder to be aware of our surroundings no matter how "safe" the area.
glad you are safe. that is very scary.
I am glad you are ok and I am shocked that something like that happened !!!
And also, for my information and based to what junkyard said, what if something like that happens to a tourist like me, while I am visiting NYC ? By the time of trial, I will already be back home, thousand miles away. Does that mean the mugger walks ? I always wanted to know the procedure of crimes against tourists and what to do if something happened to me ! Because I always wondered, if something not very serious happened to me, is it worth the trouble and hassle to report it ?

I hope I never get mugged.
I lost my wallet about 4 years ago at a Broadway Musical (I don't remember which one). I had to walk home to the Upper West side. Found change on the ground, but not enough to get on the subway.
The funny thing is, about a year later, the theater called me and told me that they found my wallet. Everything was in it, except the cash of course.
This is my neighborhood too. Glad they caught the guy. What a scumbag. It's easy to forget there are people like this out there. I walk up and down these streets everyday and have never felt anything but safe. I will still walk down 45th but try to keep my spidey senses tingling.
