What musicals would you like to see a movie version of? I'd love to see Miss Saigon and Wicked made into movies! Does anyone know if the Pippin movie is still being made?
My choices are:
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical
Company
Miss Saigon
Next to Normal
Ragtime
Wicked
Wicked
Miss Saigon
Next to Normal
La Cage aux Folles
Billy Elliot
Matilda
Spring Awakening
Kinky Boots
Pippin
Beauty and the Beast
"Hello, Dolly and Mame"
Do you mean a better adaption? Those two already have films.

Definitely Ragtime w/ Lupita Nyong'o as Sarah, Idina Menzel as Mother, Hugh Jackman as Father, Tom Hiddleston as Houdini, Morgan Freeman as Booker T. Washington, & Scarlett Johansson as Evelyn Nesbit.
ljay, what? There are no films of Dolly or Mame! Or at least if there are, they must have been so bad that my mind just erased them from my memory (if only).
I am one of the few people who love the movie of Mame. Of course Lucy couldn't sing but it didn't matter to me. They will never remake Hello Dolly. Streisand was not a great choice but that's water under the bridge. The movie was great. And no one is ever going to spend that much money on filming it again.
One musical I would LOVE to see a new film of is A Little Night Music. THAT movie was so horrible. So awful it needs to be redone. Give it to Meryl Streep... she gets any other role she wants.
Ragtime is the most underrated musical ... on Broadway ... of all time. I saw the original and I saw the revival and both were fantastic. CATS ran for decades, Phantom is still going, Chicago (which I find a minor and annoying musical) is still going, Wicked (a total disaster) is still running... and yet Ragtime... a masterpiece couldn't find an audience during either of it's runs. It lost the Tony to The Lion King. A good musical but not as good as Ragtime.
I would also love to see a new film version of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' that has more of a timeless feel to it than the old 70's film which is clearly dated...
The music of Superstar reeks of the 70's. You are never going to get that out. That being said, I really enjoyed the filmed version they made around 2000. I guess it was the 25th Anniversary production.
The Hello Dolly film is glorious! It's Gorgeous to look at and the cast is just stellar. Streisand gives one of the best comedic performance of all time in this film. She also sang the crap out of it. Yes she was young, but she used her age to her advantage. Haven't seen mame.

"one of the best comedic performances of all time"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
I actually like that movie. Sure, Carol's interpretation of the role is much better than Barbra's as is Gower Champion's direction relative to Gene Kelly's, but the Dolly movie has its charms too, mainly because of how strong the original material is.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!"
You are right. She gave the best comedic performance of all time the year before that. Hello Dolly was the 2nd best comedic performance of all time.

Really? Oh yes, Barbra is much much better than Lucille Ball in I Love Lucy, Bette Davis in All About Eve or Rosalind Russell in Auntie Mame.

I'd say Matilda and Wicked, but they're being developed right now as films. I like to see Kinky Boots and Miss Saigon as movies
I think that a Cabaret remake is due.
I love the film but I would like a more faithful adaption.
3 movies before I die please. In the Heights, Miss Saigon, & Wicked.
Actually none because the movies IMO never do the Broadway show justice. I would rather see a live recording of the actual show than Broadway movie musicals with actors that can't sing the part.

Yes, please! I've wanted this! I want this! Her Send in the Clowns would be...just...ughh! YES!
Musicals that should never have been made into a movie:
Rent
I mean....dag, man.
One of the greatest tragedies in film history is that Carol Channing's Dolly was not preserved and we got a stilted film version of a glorious show. And ditto goes to Angela and Mame.
And by the way, Barbra has stated that she was the wrong choice for the Dolly film.

^I hear there were *very specific* reasons Ms. Channing was not cast, and I could be wrong:
1. At that time, Barbra Streisand was a much larger name to the general public
2. Barbra had a deal with the company...Hello, Dolly helped fulfill that deal
3. It was thought that Carol Channing was not a "film-type" person, and that she was not as...whats the word? Not "photogenic", I'm looking for another word but you know...
ETHEL MERMAN's Gypsy on film...now THAT would have been amazing!
