1) Sweet Charity is not a great show. Actually, all it is is music and dancing. And look at that right now.
2) Wicked is not being butchered by the leads. Well, not too much at least.
So I say, get over it.
1) You've never seen Sweet Charity.
2) You haven't even seen Applegate in the role.
Wicked or Sweet Charity?
Ick. Like saying "pick your poison."
go a different route completely. why dont you see a play?
Wicked is a better PRODUCTION, I think. My issue with Charity wasn't its material, but rather how the material was handled. Bare-bones, though, it's far superior to Wicked. It's a classic.

lj, the thing is, you're rightfully glorifying the original Charity. The show has had a wonderful impact on Bway. But this current revival isn't all that you make it to be.

I have not seen Wicked yet but I can tell you that just by listening to the cast album , I doubt I could sit through it twice. Charity I've seen three times in the last 3 decades and I always fall in love with it all over again.
I say....go to Wicked..sure..then "go to the bathroom" just as the curtain is going up.
then...run to the Hirshfield and enjoy the show you want to see.
Tag. I've been listening to my Charity recordings long before I saw this revival.
I know this revival has nothing on the Fosse version.
But when you only have a chance to see the revival, I take that chance.
No one will ever beat Gwen period. No one will ever beat Fosse's choreo period. But this revival was fun for me. And something I enjoyed.
I never made it out to be the best production.
Hell, it's not my favorite show on Broadway. That's Chicago, then Charity.
I have seen Applegate in the role.
I've also seen Charlotte do it.
And then let's talk about Gwen and Debbie...

I own 6 recordings of Sweet Charity and as soon as the French cast is released, I will buy it.
I wish I could have seen the Chita Rivera do the National tour.

Nard. You've must've seen bootlegs.
You've told me before, you haven't seen the show.
And Charlotte's only gone on once, which was like a month ago.

charolette went on more than once, She went on for the first week of previews in NY and she performedout of town as well.
Charlotte has gone on more than once.
Yes, Chita, even the Dutch one is better.
If you can't handle people not liking the show, don't post about it.
Seems to me you thought the Wicked-haters would flock to your side...
Charlotte went on first week of previews, and once last month.
Nard, you didnt see her.
I've seen her do the role.
Anyway, the Sweet Charity logo was not meant to be decorated in flowers - as this one is.
You've seen bootlegs. Because you didn't even have interest in Charlotte until you saw Chicago last month.
Then you were posting how you want Charlotte to go on as Charity, so you can see her in the role. And she hasn't gone on since.
You should really see a production before judging it.
I never said I saw it.
Thank you.
And I won't because I've heard Christina, seen promo stuff enough, and, well, Cilento choreographed.
The question is - would Debbie have done a better job?
All right Charity Haters......MOVE THE HELL ON!!
No one in this thread is saying anything remotely close to "Applegate is the BEST Charity I ever say, Verdon sucked ass, and there is no reason to see any other show on Broadway except Sweet Charity"
So why are you all reacting as such? I'm glad I don't spend as much energy as you all do posting in threads about shows I hated.
Like Blood Brothers. Titanic. Phantom of the Opera. Rent.
Sweet Charity is a pleasant revival show with a wonderful lead actress who is engaging to watch in this role. The Choreography is lacking, but not heinous. The sets are fine. The ensemble is enjoyable to watch as well.
Oh, and Fosee and Verdon are no longer available for the show..so please let it go.

lj, I hope you have a good birthday and that you get to see whatever show you want, but IMO, I'd take up on the chance to see Vereen in anything. I'd watch that man poop onstage if he did.
"I'd watch that man poop onstage if he did."
You, know, for a mintue, I thought he was going to.
Shame he didn't.
justme - the first post was more of a Wicked-semi-hating thread. And it seems lj just wanted people who hate Wicked to come and say something.
well, Thenardier, I wasn't exactly singling you out...just a general comment on the hating that goes on whenever this show is brought up.

Who else would see Vereen poop onstage??
Well, this has taken an interesting turn.
What an annoying thread.
