We saw WICKED twice, which I kind've regret..
And all I'm asking is to see CHARITY again. But they are like refusing. I said to them "We see Wicked twice, but can't rush CHARITY again?"
And my sister is like "There is no comparison Wicked to Charity." And I just feel like : brilliant classic Coleman score, or mediocre Schwartz score. They like all the shows we see, but they love Wicked.
I just don't understand what some people see in WICKED? I would take Charity over it anyday.
They all enjoyed CHARITY the first time. I just guess I'm a little upset because i'm dying to see it again,
Thank you. Rant over.

it might be the fact that they have no wish to see Christina Applegate butcher a classic.
It might be the fact that we are all very impressed with our first viewing of Applegate. But my family wants to see other shows.

so whats the problem then? you got out voted, get over it.
Less attitude, more gratitude. Just be happy your family takes you to shows at all.
Well, you do have a point Pop.
I'm just feeling really bitter today.
Zone - will you ever get over that people actually enjoy Applegate?

I'd prefer Ben Vereen over Christina Applegate any day.
^ Have you even see the show?
I will say it again. Brilliant classic score, or mediocre pop tunes?

brilliant singing and acting or pathetic stunt casting of someone in so far over their head in the score/dancing.

I've seen Wicked twice and Charity once. And believe me, I'd rather see a Broadway legend than a B-list Hollywood celeb.
Zone, have you even seen the show? Get over it. Christina is a fantastic actress, with impecciable comedic timing. All the critics and fans agree with that.
Get over it, Wicked isn't the best. Expand your tastes, buddy.

Christina isn't the dancer she should be to be in this lead role.

Wicked isn't my favorite show. I have wide tastes. I liek shows the range from Sondheim, to Rogers&Hammerstein to JRB to, brace yourself, Wildhorn. I have a wide taste of musicals. The score could be the best in the world, if there is someone who can't sing up to snuff and can't dance up to snuff playing the TITLE and CENTRAL character, odds are, I won't like it, and that is what happened with Charity. I was thoroughly uninpressed with Applegate and felt the show would have been many times better had Charolette D'Amboise played Charity.
I won't sit and tell you Wicked is the greatest show of all time, cause it isn't nor will i say the score is so phenomenal and the book is amazing, cause both could be better, but the performances given by every single person in that show are spectacular every night.
You honestly make me laugh out loud, when you complain that she can't sing the role.
The role was written for Gwen Verdon, and was constructed around her voice. At this time her voice was near ruined, and she lost most of her range. Listen to the OBC, which I've doubt you've heard. I have 6-7 recordings of CHARITY, and Christina's singing is on the level with most other Charitys. No other Charity will ever come close to topping Debbie Allen's singing in the role. period. And no other Charity will beat Verdon's dancing.
This role is known as one of those roles that don't call for a great singer.
Her singing and dancing were near perfect when I saw her. And her acting was amazing.
Now stop getting on my back, whenever I post a thread about Charity. The Applegate bashing is so 5 months ago. You look like a fool.

and you look like an obsessed fan girl, seriously, five recordings? of the same show?

Well, then stop complaining, "My parents are taking me to this show and this show but not this show! Boo hoo!" If you want to see Charity, see it yourself.

I haven't seen Wicked yet but knowing my mother, being the sucker for sets and costumes she is, she'll deem it as one of the best musical productions that ever graced the stage (she already deemed 'Assassins' the worst musical she'd ever seen'.
Again, like Popular said, be grateful at least.
When you love a brilliant score so much, you want as many recordings as possible.
Some people own tons of recordings of Les Miz etc.
Tag. My only way of getting to NYC is my parents. I don't drive etc. I am greatful. But this is my birthday we are going for, and I thought I should be able to choose the shows. But I'm greatful they take me.

I can easily see why they would choose Wicked. Your family, no offense, probably doesn't have wide taste in musical theatre. Wicked is a show that any non-loving theatre person can go to and have fun at. Not saying Charity isn't, but Wicked is designed for families.

hyper, she is right about the sets and costumes they are amazing, but Assassins the worst musical ever? I think that counts as Blaspheme and might be punishable by public stoning.
and you look like an obsessed fan girl, seriously, five recordings? of the same show?
Geez, that's shallow. Every recording made of each show is different - different strengths and weaknesses. Owning more than one can HARDLY be compared to being a screaming, squealing psychotic fangirl.
Sorry, ljay. My family has pretty different taste than I do, as well. Then again, my parents also don't support seeing anything, no matter how much you love it or why, more than once. They think it's a waste of time and money.
Whatyouown. You are absolutely correct. I am the Theatre geek of the family, and my dad and sister really knew nothing about Theatre. My mom did though.
I mean the show is fun, but I can think of sooo many other shows that beat it.
Thank you, Emcee. You see where I am coming from. With owning many recordings, and different taste from your family.
k, or they have different tastes. I mean Cahrity is a more traditianal broadway score. Wickee is not. I would see wicked anyday, but that is becasue I have no interest in Charity. and becasue Il like Wicked does not mean I am an obsessed fan teenager. I like other musical. ALW, Sondheim, Les Mis, DRS, Rent. There. Not evry who likes Wicked doesn't like other good musicals. And Wicked isn't full of generic potunes. I agree the book is not the greatest, and some of the lyrics are a bit odd, but the music is lovely and the actors are fantastic. the end. *rant over*
Listen. I don't hate Wicked. I thought it was cute.
But if I had a chance to see a revival of a classic show that had a huge impact on Broadway in the old days, over Wicked. I would take the revival.
