The real story is the inevitability of major snubs this year, since there are more than 5 potential nominees in all of the acting categories! (:
There are 14 plausible lead actor in a play nominees; 11 lead actresses. I'm convinced that we'll be discussing major major snubs on the 13th!
The featured actress in a musical category is so crowded that it is inevitable that truly deserving nominees will be left off the list - fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy morning!!

WBaF- I completely agree with you on all those predictions. Too bad that GLORY DAYS wont be eligible...I would go for THE LITTLE MERMAID for a nod at Best Score, in place of GD.

I edited my predictions in my first post in accordance with the final rulings announced by the Administration Committee today.
Here is the link to the rulings:

See my first post for my revised final list of predictions.

If YOUNG FRANK gets a score nom I will faint.
LITTLE MERMAID should get it over Mel's terrible score.
and the ruling for Laurents is just baffling.
I know you all love the production but the man has directed it three times on Broadway.
That should throw that ruling right out the window, everytime Yul Brynner played the King, he should have been nominated?
Read THE MAKING OF GYPSY and you will see Laurents made significant changes each time he directed it and thought they were definitive.
I agree with WannaBe's original musical director choices but Laurents will probably be included with the new ruling.

I agree with you on 95% of the predictions.
However, I DO think Patrick Stewart will get a nomination for Leading Actor in a Play since I keep hearing he's "the one to beat," etc.

I agree 99.9%.
But the exclusion of Patrick Stewart confuses me.
#33re: My Tony Nominations Predictions
Posted: 5/8/08 at 11:33pmIF Mermaid gets any nominations, and that's a big IF, the only ones it may have a chance at are score, maybe a generous feat. actress nom for Sherie Rene Scott, and lighting (which I think has the best chance, since it was the only thing that looked halfway decent about the show).
#34re: My Tony Nominations Predictions
Posted: 5/9/08 at 12:21amI think that Arthur Laurents will be nominated for GYPSY before Christopher Ashley is nominated for XANADU.
#36re: My Tony Nominations Predictions
Posted: 5/9/08 at 12:30amBecause he's Arthur Laurents... and his work on GYPSY is much more award worthy or even nomination worthy than Ashley's.

Exactly.
It may very well be his final Tony Nomination.

But Ashley turned an awful movie musical into a funny new campy show and Laurents directed a show he has down so many times before.

If the original XANADU film was intended to be campy, it would be just as successful. Ashley had an easy job. Just mock something ridiculous.
Laurents...not so much. I think Laurents will snag the nomination.
#40re: My Tony Nominations Predictions
Posted: 5/9/08 at 12:46amI completely agree. I don't think Ashley will get a nomination...and I really hope Dan Knechgtes doesn't get a nomination for XANADU's choreography. It's really nothing worth nominating. YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN deserves the nod over XANADU for choreography.
#41re: My Tony Nominations Predictions
Posted: 5/9/08 at 6:47amI agree with most of the nominations, however, I think there might be more nods for Top Girls, which may or should bump out Cyrano as it is a terrific revival and the women are fabulous, especially Plimpton and Marvel. I think Xanadu will not be bumped, if anything does it might be Passing Strange. But I guess we will find out Tuesday.
#42re: My Tony Nominations Predictions
Posted: 5/9/08 at 7:42amI know Is He Dead? has no real shot at any major nominations (go David Pittu!!!!), but I feel the costumes are very worthy of nomination.

I know that people have been trying to hate on In the Heights on this board, but they are the same people who hated on Spring Awakening and were so sure that Grey Gardens would win everything (Passing Strange this year). The Tonys this year are gonna be all about In the Heights.
Also, the Lortel Awards. How can Passing Strange be snubbed by them, but win several Tonys? Probably won't happen. In the Heights forced a tie for Best Musical last year, right? A tie with not just any musical, but a tie with the same show that won 8 Tony Awards last year, Spring Awaknening. This process doesn't seem as complicated as some people want it to be.

Posted: 5/9/08 at 10:59amI have only seen Mandy nominated (Predictions) once on the boards, She will be nominated. In the Playbill article of who is lead or whatever she was put in as the lead. So I have a feeling if they went through the trouble of finding the lead she will be nominated, she has no chance of winning but she will get the nom!
#45re: My Tony Nominations Predictions
Posted: 5/9/08 at 11:06amI think that this year's MUSICAL awards may be very spread out. I just don't think that there is any ONE show that has been such a standout that it will dominate the evening. And, frankly, I'm okay with the TONYS sharing the love.

Drunk Chita Rivera, I would love to see Mandy Gonzalez get a nomination. But I just don't think one of the initial five is going to be bumped out to include Gonzalez.
Who do you see getting bumped?

Posted: 5/9/08 at 3:48pmI think maybe Faith Prince, not sure. I don't know how good she is. It's just a prediction.
#48re: My Tony Nominations Predictions
Posted: 5/9/08 at 4:18pmFaith Prince is a lock...she's brilliant in the role. Patti's only real competition, IMO.
