Well for someone who thinks NEXT TO NORMAL is a masterpiece...

And I don't know why everyone is placing Kate Jennings Grant as featured actress; her name is above the title and it's a leading role in the musical.
I think the talk started in the last Tonys thread when it was mentioned that even though she's above the title it could come to the discretion of the Tonys board.

It only gets decided by the Tony committee if the producers choose to petition to have her moved. Unless that happens all nominations remain consistent with the billing on opening night. The committee does not take action on its own.

Right. But the producers would do well not to have their leads competing with each other.

Not that it matters. With the way things are going right now, and opening night like a week away, I could easily see Platt and Graham getting shut out.

Was that some kind of a joke?

9 to 5 getting bumped for [title of show] with Shrek still in place?
Hunter Bell for Best Actor?
Stephanie J. Block in the Leading category?
Natalie Toro for Best Featured?
Billy Elliot completely shut out of Best Score in favor of 13?
WEST SIDE STORY COMPETING IN THE BOOK AND SCORE CATEGORIES?!?!?!?

Also, who the hell are Marc Kudish and Hayden Gwayne? Did they replace Marc Kudisch and Haydn Gwynne in 9 to 5 and Billy Elliot? That's sure confusing. Anyway, I doubt they'd be up for Tonys, since they're replacements. Kudsich and Gwynne would be, though.

I tell you, those names get butchered like a prime cut of beef.

dg - those predictions make NO SENSE.

[Title Of Show] hasn't even announced it's coming back yet...

What I don't get are the people who think Brian D'Arcy James should win for best actor. As far as I'm concerned it's a plug-and-chug role (i.e., generic) that any actor who can do a convincing Scottish accent can play. There's absolutely nothing special about it. The Billys absolutely deserve best actor. What they do on that stage is nothing short of amazing and no one who is nominated alongside them can even compare.

um... where is Olivo in your featured actress'?
IMO, the featured actress category comes down to SJB and Olivo

If another score with imperfect rhymes wins at the Tonys for the third year in a row, I'm going to stop watching...okay, maybe not. But I'm going to send the Wing and the League a copy of the Clement Wood.

why do people think that [title of show] needs to reopen to be eligible for the Tony Awards? As long as the Tony voters were invited to the show during its run they can be nominted. You don't have to be running to be eligible.

Yes but with the state of the economy and Broadway hurting so much, there's a general assumption/feeling that they will nominate the shows that are currently running (in order to boost ticket sales).

Of course they would never admit it but it makes perfect sense and I don't really mind, to be honest.

[TITLE OF SHOW] has close to zero chance of being nominated. If they do reopen, their chances increase.

13 for best score? not happening. I actually liked the show but there is NO WAY it's getting nominated for anything.

I'm taken back by the lack of Billy Elliot predictions. Personally I think it will easily take many of the catagories. I'll be surprised in they don't take actor, featured actor and actress, choreography, direction and musical.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

I think the kids from 13 should get something. It's very difficult to shout "13!!! I wanna kill my mom. 13!!! Now I'll go wash the dog" or whatever they're saying. Ah, the sweet smell of cliche lyrics, hormones, and child labor laws.

kchenofan's computer is broken right now. This is her fridge. Now, you can leave a message, but say it slowly, so I can write it on a post-it note and stick it to myself.

Idina, Pal Joey is a shoo-in for Revival - there's only four eligible!

"[TITLE OF SHOW] has close to zero chance of being nominated. If they do reopen, their chances increase."

What do you mean "if" TOS reopens? There has never been any discussion of reopening the show, aside from posters here. Flop shows don't close and reopen in the same season.

It's not happening. I'll put money on that. Anyone who says otherwise is simply a very optimistic [tosser]. Anyway, Next to Normal just halved it's chances at any nomination.

Fosse - I pray they don't reopen it. I'm simply going off of what Hunter Bell has continuously implied in varying interviews.

I was saying that because someone had predicted [TOS] as Best Musical.

If you actually followed the conversation, it wasn't my idea nor will it ever be my wish for it to see Broadway again. Trust me.

I think N2N killed tos chances of getting a best musical nod. And I'm not convinced that Shrek will land one either...but leaning toward it. I will NEVER watch the Tonys again should SOML get a nom.

But the rumors are STILL flying that TOS is coming back.....but I'd rather the $ go to better use!

I have a harder problem listing individuals for awards that I haven't seen yet.....especiallly since several of them haven't even OPENED yet.

I liked 13 score way better than Billy Elliot's. I think it should be nominated for best score.

Both scores are awful.

Neither should win.
