Don't yell at me, I know it doesn't open until tomorrow but there's already a review from AMNY and its a rave:
"Alice Ripley is absolutely fierce. Like Sherie Rene Scott, Idina Menzel or Julia Murney, Ripley brings an electrifying, urgent intensity to edgy rock musicals. And Ripley?s luminous ferocity is displayed to brilliant perfection in ?Next to Normal.?
...
Simply put, ?Next to Normal? is truly one of the most powerful, surprising and invigorating original musicals in recent memory, reminding us how it?s possible for contemporary musical theater to hook an audience entirely through the strength of its storytelling. This dynamic musical should not be missed."

let's hope tommorow night's follow suit
very exciting....a great way to start them off!!!
Thats a great start!
I have never wanted a show to get raves in my entire life like I want raves for N2N
I see raves in future, and totally deserved !!!!
Here's hoping they're all like this.
Excellent review and totally well deserved! I'm having high hopes for tomorrow!

It's nice to see that its first review is a Rave, but that was an awful review. He compared her to IdinaMenzel and Julia Murney as a compliment. That's a terrible comparison.
In a perfect world, it would win the Tony as Best Musical. I doubt it will happen & it will probably go to Billy Elliott

Aren't news outlets only supposed to post their reviews on opening night?

Love "BE", but too bad Best Musical isn't based strictly on score !!! Then we would have a "N2N" win !!!
i'm really hoping that N2N does well at the tonys (BEST Musical)

^That's my issue with Billy Elliot winning...Best Musical should be about the show on the whole, including a strong score. Which BE definitely does not have. Ah well...only time will tell!

I think it will get respectful reviews, and Brantley will probably do his Diva Worship act for Alice Ripley. I doubt there'll be many raves.
The "BE" score is so forgettable its frightening !!! And like I stated earlier, I love the show as a whole.

I think this show will be a string of raves
C'mon, there's really no way N2N can take Best Musical. Let's get serious. I love the show and would love to see that happen but it's just not going to happen this year. Among many other reasons, it's way too risky for the Tonys to hand over the most important award to a dark, depressing, original musical. We're in a recession. People want to see some big, grand, Broadway spectacle based on a movie or with a familiar score. There's no way the one original musical that will likely get a nomination will be able to beat out recognizable tourist traps like 9 TO 5, ROCK OF AGES, SHREK, or BILLY ELLIOT.
But I hope the positive reviews keep a-comin'.

I'm really curious to see what the Word of Mouth pannel has to say. I think they generally tend to be on the side of the tourists, and I want to see how a touristy audience will react.
My guess is that "Shrek" doesnt get a Best Musical nod--- unless the "9 To 5" reviews are horrible.
