The Plano Rep. Theatre is having auditions for NINE soon and I don't know anything about the show. But I want to audition because it's an equity theatre with equity actors and I want that experience and to have it on my resume.

anyway, how many male roles are in the show? I do know there's an abundance of female roles.

Any insight would be great, thanks!

No, you are wrong. The original production only had 1 man and 1 boy as well. After all, it was Tommy Tune's decision to have the cast be entirely women.

Um...the original had one man (Raul Julia) and FOUR little boys. One played Guido as a child and the other three were his schoolmates. They were featured heavily in "Be Italian" and also appeared in "The Bells of St. Sebastians" and in "The Grand Canal" sequence.

When Paper Mill did it they added men (as spa workers with their shirts off, of course.)

Yes yes, you are correct, I forgot about that. They're barely in the show, though.

Well, maybe not then...they're also doing Cinderella. Maybe I'll audition for that instead.

Thanks y'all!

Although the original Broadway production was performed with one man, 21 women and four boys, the published script has options to make some of the roles men, so it all depends on what your director might be doing with it.

I think it loses the effect to have any roles but Guido and young Guido (and MAYBE his schoolmates) as men. The whole play is about Contini's relationships with women - whether they are platonic or more than that.

UNless you can figure out if there will be more roles made male, than I'd do Cinderella. While Nine is a better show, you would probably have a better chance at getting in Cinderella. There's the Prince, King, Herald and I'm sure they could use men in the Ensemble
