That was one orgasmic movie trailer. Hot and sexy. Kudos to the publicity team for putting it together. They did an excellent job. Now here's hoping that the film as a whole holds up to that promising look.

It feels a lot like a fast-cut, all-star music video, but I'm loving it regardless. I wish there was a little more storytelling or glimpse of plot in the trailer, so it felt more like it had an actual story.
But they're selling sexy, movie-star ladies in big, splashy production numbers. And, oh yeah, Daniel Day-Lewis is in it, too.
I bet it'll get bodies in the seats, and that's what counts with a trailer anyway.

Hey, Marquise---I can understand the lyrics better in this trailer. In the other thread you thought she was saying, "hip-hop bars," and honestly, I couldn't tell because of the quality.
She's singing:
"Sleek little cars,
Hip, hoppin' bars,"
That's not anachronistic for the '60s, but "hip-hop" would be.
Although this Latin disco beat is definitely anachronistic! But then again, so are the entire scores of Hello, Dolly!, JC Superstar, Spring Awakening, Evita, Les Mis, etc.

I also wish there was a bit more of the storytelling and dialogue. Still, I think it's a wonderful trailer and the clips we get from different numbers (particularly the clips from "A Call from the Vatican") look fabulous.

This is mind-blowingly delicious.
Its INSANE how the whole essence of NINE has been perfectly represented in both trailers released so far.
NINE could finally put Rob Marshall in the category that has been evading his film work.

My question is where will "Cinema Italiano" fit in the stage production? You know all the regional productions of Nine that pop up after the movie comes out, attempting to cash in on the success of the film, will try and insert the song somewhere, but where?

Wouldn't it work pretty well either right before, or in between "Nine" (or if they use "Guarda La Luna" then after that) and "The Bells of St. Sebastian" or directly after that, ending Act One on a flashier note?
This is a VERY slippery slope, the whole "Let's put the movie songs into the stage production" thing. The purists always get riled up, though NINE is one example of a show whose concept AND content has been RADICALLY changed throughout it's stage history (Tune had Bway set in the spa and the tour set in a train station (also incorporating male voices in the chorus) and the Levevaux revival was a totally different concept, plus "The Germans At the Spa" and parts of "Folies Bergere" have been personally changed by Yeston many times).
Anyway, I think it would be a killer Act One finale OR in the spot before "Nine"/"Bells".
Now, how to incorporate "Take It All", or the trio version with Luisa, Carla and Claudia.

I'm sure by the time there's another revival, changes made in the movie will be incorporated into the new stage version, a la Sound of Music, Cabaret, and Dreamgirls. Maybe even Hairspray one day.

Actually, BrodyFosse is the NINE authority in these parts but I'd love to write up some thoughts when I have the time! Yes, the tour with Sergio Franchi (ETA:thanks!)was very unique, though I am not a fan. I love the Donmar version, maybe more than any other one though I actually am one of the few to find Leveaux's revival nearly as good as the original and in a few ways superior.
And it's so interesting that you bring up HAIRSPRAY, degrassifan. I actually think "Cinema Italiano" is the exact same kind of song as "Ladies' Choice" (now one of my fav HAIRSPRAY tunes) and a great example of a song doing something that was never done in the stage show but which ultimately draws the uninitiated members of the audience in as well as adding a new layer to the show for the fans. Love both songs and can't wait to see "CI" (and PARTICULARLY "Take It All") in NINE!

What I like about the two trailers is that they are PUSHING that it's a musical. Most film trailers for musicals try to be shy about that fact showing as much dialogue and as little singing as possible.

However, I will say that if I did not already know what the gist of Nine was, I would have no idea what the movie would be about.

People keep complaining that these trailers don't tell more about what the plot to NINE is. Truth be told there isn't much plot to NINE. Its an esoteric piece about a film director and the women in his life. Sex, tears. Sex. Drama. Sex. Music. I'd say the trailer tells plenty what the plot of NINE is...
