Interesting that they both have Joe Mantello winning director. That could be the case, but I dont think any director has had a buzzier year than Ivo van Hove. Yes, View is closed, but I still think he has the best shot.

Interesting that Brantey says Lange "Should Win" for LONG DAYS after his review. Saw the show on Saturday and she was breathtaking IMO.

And Isherwood thinks Shuffle Along should win. I honestly thought the book was the weakest part of that show. There was a good book in there somewhere, and I definitely saw glimpses of it, but it needed work.

I know. I was shocked. Could he have had a change of opinion?

Love Joe Mantello and think his work on The Humans was excellent, but I will really be disappointed if Ivo van Hove doesn't win. He's an absolute genius, and I can't imagine him not winning for his work on View from the Bridge.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Completely agree. I disliked View from the Bridge (although I was glad I saw it for Strong's performance) so much I almost didn't see the Crucible. It turned out I loved it. I think the scene in View where they all stood in a circle reading stage directions and then the blood pouring down were just too much. The Crucible was still creative and different, but didn't feel like creativity just for the sake of it.

He did say in an interview that he was confused by Hamilton getting nominated for Best Book since it's sung-through, so I think the answer is yes, he made his choices before he knew what a book was.

I think he should, if that counts for anything. I hope there is a chance he might, but probably not sadly NY Times (Brantley and Isherwood) Will Win/Should Win List
