I know that t@#r!$t is basically a swear word around here, but I can't deny it... I am one!
In about 3 weeks I head back to NYC for my first time since December 2019. Summer isn't my ideal time to visit, but that's when the Music Man tickets I bought in 2019 ended up after Telecharge finished rolling the dice.
I'm pretty booked with regards to shows, with plans to see:
Potus
Funny Girl
Into the Woods
The Classical Theatre of Harlem's Twelfth Night
Phantom of the Opera
Six
Music Man
Company (twice)
The Little Shop of Horrors
Moulin Rouge
I do have a couple matinee days with nothing booked yet. I was waiting to see if certain shows were going to extend, and/or reports on others opening. I may or may not use those times for shows.
I have booked two sort of tourist trappy sounding walking tours: a Bushwick Graffiti tour, and a tour that goes inside the Hudson Theatre.
I've booked timed entry tickets to see the Kandisky show at the Guggenheim, and the Virgil Abloh exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum.
I've generally visited New York in the fall & winter before, so would like to see/do things that are more summery. I plan to go one day out to Coney Island/ Brighton Beach. I don't think I have the time to go out much further to places like Fire Island, so am thinking of perhaps doing other beach days to possibly Rockaway or maybe Long Beach. I understand for Long Beach you have to pay to use the beach, & have read about using the LIRR to get there. Is it worth it? Or is there somewhere else you would suggest instead?
Is there anything that you, dear BroadwayWorld regular, would describe as a summer essential?
With love, Inception

Go to Shakespeare in the Park. Get drinks on the rooftop of the Met museum. Look up what’s going on at Lincoln Center’s outdoor Summer for the City events to see if anything is of interest. Enjoy your visit! https://www.lincolncenter.org/series/summer-for-the-city

If you are queer and want a really good beach, go to Jacob Riis. no better place in NYC imo.
Little Island is cute too if you just want to walk around and sip wine.
There's a new restaurant in Hell's Kitchen called "Peachy Keen" which is my new favorite pre-broadway drink/dinner spot. it's hella cute.

Don't see "A Strange Loop" on your list. Assuming you don't want to see it but I would suggest it for a matinee if you decide to see a show.

Add Paradise Square and maybe Strange Loop?

You didn't give your exact dates, but Fat Ham at the Public extended to July 17 and has Sunday evening performances. Also, the Minutes closes 7/24. Mr. Saturday Night is supposed to be a lot of fun.
