barnes has been a critic for years and deserves more respect than that.

But thank goodness not your money. Nice payback by the way. Too bad the ticket couldn't have been used by someone who would actually be thankful to see a live performance of any Greenberg play.

Tell me more about the rain lol - that sounds cool. Was there a show curtain for it? Just curious.

And I wasn't saying that I would like the play because of the poster, I was just saying that it had a cool poster that got me interested in the play. I would probably see it no matter who was in it. I just like off-beat sorta dramas.

I<3JLY was VERY kind in her assesment of Barnes.

Greenberg's play was exquisite.

You just said you thought Julia Roberts was good, yet you agree with Barnes when he said he hated her? Do you even know what you're saying?

There are many redeemable qualities about this production - mainly - the opportunity to see this work performed. The lighting and set design are perfect, and I love the original score. I thought Paul Rudd was excellent, and I liked Cooper, too. Roberts was lacking, but I was so engrossed with the play that she didn't bother me. There's no doubt that more of a character actress could have made this revival great instead of just good (it will never be amazing due to Mantello's limp direction, but perhaps it's because he's afraid to direct Roberts.) I would like to see the show again - I loved it.

I liked FESTEN too. I think it's a great play. It's one of my favorite things I've seen this season, despite the awkwardness of the production and the abominable Ali McGraw, the material, design, and direction really interested me.

Honestly, why bother arguing or trying to enlighten Muscle? The boy is clearly not very bright. His tastes run to Bombay Dreams and Barefoot in the Park. What else do you need to know? He is simply not capable of appreciating anything remotely nuanced or intellectually challenging. All you need to do is read ANY of his previous posts or reviews and that fact becomes glaringly clear. No offense, Muscle, but it's a fact. You're very young, kinda shallow, and a little dim.

Three Days of Rain, whatever you think of this particular production (which I thought failed mostly) is a remarkable, insightful and wonderfully nuanced play. Perhaps not a play for the masses, but one that has been highly praised as a quality piece of writing, especially in its original production several years ago. It's a play for thinking grownups. Sorry Muscle was incapable of seeing that. Maybe he should spend a little more time at the library and a little less at the gym.

Flash-in-the-Pan...I mostly agree with you.

There's only one thing I disagree with and that is BAREFOOT IN THE PARK is a very good play. (Not this revival, mind you.) But as much as I love Greenberg's work...I always enjoy a good Neil Simon classic as well.

Besides for that, you're spot on.

well...this time, "3 days" got panned and i agree with all the critics, why would i care what foanatic has to say about me? or this other person who says my opinion is not valid because of some show i liked in the past? anyways...i told these people not to participate in my threads, but like a stalker they keep trying and trying, although i keep saying "no, go away".

I give him credit. According to his past reviews his tastes run the gamut. Though I don't agree with everything he says, there isn't anything wrong with having an opinion. And, from what I hear, Muscle loves Light in the Piazza.

Muscle, did you even read the review I linked or have it read to you? It's short so it shouldn't be daunting. Because Michael Feingold is one of the best theater critic working today. The best, in my opinion.

He doesn't fit in with your blanket statement about "every critic" at all.

well...i did read that review, i should change "all" to "most and most respectable critics", anyways...indeed, foa, you are right...i just happen to want to share my thoughts with good-hearted people, obviously you are not that.

I find it really interesting that many of you liked Festen and didn't like 3 Days of Rain. Granted, 3 Days of Rain was not my favorite play, but I didn't think it was as bad as the reviews it got. Festen, on the other hand, was literally my least favorite play of the season (with the exception of Odd Couple, which blew all around). I just find this interesting, thought I'd throw that out there.

What are you talking about? "Three Days of Rain" has a plot. What do you think they did, stand around on stage making random noises for 2 and a half hours?

It's a very intricate plot so I can understand how it could go over some peoples' heads. But the show has a wonderfully engaging story that requires some real thinking to understand.

Muscle FINALLY agrees with the reviewers for a change...give the boy a break. Three Days of Rain, I'm sure in other productions, was a good show. However, this production was boring, long and badly directed...it WAS beautiful, but that don't cut it.
