Why, it's the most disgusting atrocious thing EVER to happen in America.

Well I'm sure a lot of people are really happy that this is finally closing. It did have a long run and I'm glad that I saw the show. I really enjoyed it the first time I saw it in January 2006. It will be missed but it will be exciting to see what is coming next.

Well, there go my dreams of playing the score...
I'm three years out of high school, there's not ONE school or community group nearby that's doing it, and my camp won't even GO NEAR putting it up. I guess I'll never MD Rent. Not in a million years. It's so stupid.

Right, because there aren't going to be more productions scheduled in the future. If they're not scheduled right this very moment, they are never, ever going to happen!

Josh, people around you probably aren't doing it because THE RIGHTS AREN'T AVAILABLE YET.
The only rights currently available are for the school edition, and I don't even know if they're available to everyone just yet.

I am also sad to see it closing. Rent was a turning point to me, it is what made me go from being a casual musical theater fan to wanting to see and hear everything I possibly could.
I will be sad that I never saw it on Broadway in its original form, but from what I have heard of late, right now it is not the same show with the same energy that I fell in love with.
I am glad that it got a good, long run and was able to impact so many people in such a profound way.

Are we really going to loose tears over this? It had a healthy run, and has run its course. It was on Broadway 10 years and has touched millions. I'm sure it will continue to change lives after Broadway. I'd love to see it come back in the future with better direction.

Finally!!! It's about time this show closed.

I've been over this show for a while now so I guess I'm indifferent to it's closing but I do feel a little bad for people who really loved this show and everyone involved with it.

Just got around to this thread.
Wow Mr. Tuttle, you are awfully full of yourself.
"Les Miz revival...Usher in Chicago...O'Hara in SP...Sheri in LM...some of the things I broke here on BWW. As an industry person, I know what's going on."
Even if/though you work in the industry, doesn't mean you know what you are talking about.
And links have ALWAYS been necessary on this board. Your whole attitude of, ’you’ll get left behind if you wait for links’ is just moronic. Links to the story give proof to what you are announcing. Besides, how fast do you REALLY need this sort of information? Congratulations that you managed to post about the closing BEFORE any reputable person made an official announcement. Do you want a dollar or something?
I'd rather hear the news reports from a news reporter, not someone who may of overheard something backstage somewhere.

Is it sold out already? There are no tickets available on Ticketmaster anymore.

Excellent. That should be fun. Maybe you can talk about it a little bit and educate these rent deads ( I mean rent heads) about something more substantial.

Kelly, it is sold out, except for premium seats, which are something like $200. I went to the box office early this morning, and that's all they had left.

On this thread several knowledgeable people have said that there's no way that this show is closing on June 1 and it will be extended through the summer. Others here have said that they are certain that June 1 is the closing date, period. So what is the concensus here? Does it close June 1 or not?

I feel like I just found out a family member died.
A very, very old family member who was ill and now, finally at peace.
I am very sad to hear about RENT, but...it's the right time. It's not the same anymore. I will miss it immensely with all my heart and soul, but for Jonathan, for the original cast. It doesn't have the same heart anymore, and hasn't for a long time.
I had a feeling, like many others I'm sure, that it would be coming to an end soon. When Anthony and Adam came back in '07 it was all too random, to me anyway... I just felt like the reason they were coming back was to get one last hurrah in before it was all over. It seemed obvious.... and then when Anthony did his small show in NYC a few weeks ago (which I'm lucky and proud to have been at) I had this feeling again. The "it's going to end any day now" feeling.
I walk past the Nederlander everyday to work. I used to walk past it everyday to college. That place is special and I will always remember it and what the show used to mean to me.
I didn't want to see it again after having finally seen Anthony and Adam.... but I might have to now. I'd hope that the entire original cast would come back for the last show, but I don't know how realistic that is with what their schedules must be like.

Kelly, as we discussed that too would make my life. Bright Lights Big City really does need to come to Broadway and I think a REPAINTED nederlander would be the perfect place.

No doubt the show will have a healthy boost in sales from now until it closes. Whether or not it actually closes June 1st depends on if the producers would like to let the show slowly whimper into a sad death or go out while sales are at a height. I wouldn't be surprised if they extended closing until the end of summer.

Bright Lights, Big City would be fantastic on Broadway and in the Nederlander. Patrick Wilson, Andy Karl, Orfeh, Eden Espinosa heading the cast, of course. Oh god, it makes me excited just thinking about it! That score is SO brilliant, and with a top notch book-writer, it could be a genius show. I liked a lot of the orchestrations in the Philly production, but I'd prefer the set to be less minimalist...

One of my favorite things about living in New York, and about New York theater is that we have these long-running shows. I have really liked that I could go see RENT any time; tonight, tomorrow, next week, 6 months from now, whenever! I didnt have to wait for the tour to come back like in other cities.
Sure, the cast in RENT nowadays has some trouble spots, but darn it, that could have been fixed. People are saying that its not the same show it was back in 96-97. Well guess what? It still is. Just because the Maureen you get may be a little dull or the Collins seems off that night does not mean we need to go around being glad that RENT is leaving.
I am still grateful that PHANTOM is there as my B-way comfort food, and yes PHANTOM still is at its 1988 peak condition......anybody thinks other wise I'll take you to a show and pay for your ticket so you can point out specificially what has gone wrong with it.
ANYWAY, its nice that shows stay here so long. I have yet to try out Mamma Mia or Spamalot. Its nice to know I dont have to rush to see them. Wicked? I saw it once in 2003, and its still nice to know that if I want to see it.........its there. And I wish so badly I could still say that about my beloved RENT---the show that took me from adolescence to adulthood.

I'm so glad that they're putting it out of its misery. It was terrible the last time I saw it. Just terrible.
