Those of you rushing to buy tickets for closing night...you DO know that there's a 150% chance of it being extended, right?
So, Mr. Tuttle could be...WRONG?!
It was definatly time for this show to go. It had a great run, but I think it hit it's stride a while back. When I saw the Broadway production 2 years ago, the cast looked like they were sleepwalking through their roles. Absolutly no energy from anybody; it seemed like they were just there to collect a paycheck. Plus the grosses haven't been too well for a while now.
Sure, they could've done what Les Miz did and just replace the current cast, with a new one, but it would have just prolonged the inevitable. I think it's smart of the producers to let the show go out on a high note rather than wait till it's only grossing $75,000 a week and playing to 20% capacity.
If the production had been kept in better shape, we might have gotten another few years out it. It really was pathetic at times. I don't understand how once performers settle into a show, they think it's acceptable to just phone it in.

this is devastating news
before most of you were even old enough to appreciate live theatre Rent changed something and made a mark like no other show had done since Hair
It will be sadly missed
IMO It's been time for the show to close. I love the show , but the last few times I have seen it, it was a huge dissappointment. I'm sure there will be a great revival of the show in the futer.
It made it's mark on Broadway. I hopefully will get the chance to see it before it closes. I feel terrible right now.
speaking of extending... anyone know why ticketmaster is selling tickets through June 22?
