Neil Patrick Harris Appreciation Thread — Page 2

There is another one that was a little more pretentious. But it wasn't just that. It was a culmination of things. But this is a non issue. Both very talented and I hope I get to see them in more ( or less) stuff.

Other than Ellen Degeneres and Portia De Rossi, I'm hard hard pressed to think of any other high profile show biz gay couple (Is Elton John's husband in entertainment?) so NPH and David Burtka are pretty much the "go to " couple for such things I imagine.

I think NPH has fallen into the trap that happens with many high profile "stars". The public loves them and wants them and when they get what they want (more) the public turns on them for over exposure.
I adore him. We ran into him at Shrek the year he first hosted the Tonys (I think) and my daughter, then about 12, met her first famous person. He was very sweet to her as she chatted away. When he held her hand, I thought she'd swoon. A moment forever etched in my memory.
I enjoy him as a performer quite a bit. Looking forward to his variety show in a few weeks.

What a lovely story dramamama!

He deserves more. HE DESERVES IT

I am pretty sure the associated pretentiousness became much more apparent with this interview about NPH's weeklong 40th birthday celebration, and how David took him around the country on a private jet with the clues programmed into mini-iPads. It included a private tour of and personal dressing at Tommy Hilfiger's headquarters.

He acts, he sings, he dances, he hosts, he does drag, he marries, he breeds, he writes, he does magic!!!
The only thing he can't do, it seems, is sit down and STFU.

While I somewhat agree with the OP, I really don't think these appreciation threads are necessary. I'm sure NPH is well aware of how much he is loved in the Broadway community. His performance as Hedwig was acclaimed and he won the tony for it. Does it really matter what psycho JCM fans on a message board say about Neil? Probably not.

^^ THIS is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of why I wrote earlier:
...there are a lot of people, especially gay men who are jealous of his success and the family he has built with his husband David Burtka. They just cannot stand that he is happy and successful.
Thank you BorstalBoy. I can always count on you to parade your obnoxiousness and vitriol around in your usual fashion.

Cause you seem like a paragon of happiness.

I don't know how you decided that Borstal is envious from that.

The downside of an appreciation thread... it is a welcome mat for everyone who doesn't appreciate the person in question to weigh in. ![]()

Why does there even need to be an appreciation thread for anyone?

Because Tonys for him his costar and the show, a record-breaking run, and launching the show for the first-time-ever on Broadway is being tarnished by people saying they preferred someone else as their Hedwig.

Because there is an appreciation thread for everything on this site. Patti LuPone burps? Yup, there is an appreciation thread for that!

I wrote my previous post in a spirit of satire, something I don't expect CarlosAlberto to take the time to pull the thumb out of his PRA to figure out.
He's a fine Tony host, a dynamic (if not exactly heartbreaking) Hedwig, and a sturdy comic actor. But he is overexposed, you have to admit.

Hard to judge if we're on a website that turns his sending the tiniest tweet into a full-on news story half the time... he might seem that way to us, but is that really everyone's perception?

You really need to work on your delivery...it lacks EVERYTHING and then some. But then again not much a surprise coming from you.

I appreciate him. It's actually amazing how he went from being incredibly annoying (when he was Doogie Howser) to being, like, the best person on the planet.

What kind of records did the run of Hedwig break???
hork, I don't know if I would say he's the best person on the planet.

It broke box office records for the Belasco during NPH's reign, and upon its closing Hedwig itself was the long-running show to ever open at the Belasco.

Wow, I feel stupid for not knowing that every show that ever opened at the Belasco ran for less than a year. Good job to Hedwig!

Well, less than 76 weeks, at least...
