Actually, if you have someone blocked, you can see their posts when you hit the reply button. I have sometimes looked at those I've blocked to try to make sense out of a thread.
someone please post a list of all of the rivalries here, because i forget who hates who sometimes.

I know this and I avoid it. I'm not pulling a "Mr. Roxy" here. I wouldn't go to the trouble of blocking someone to then go ahead and read what they are posting. It defeats the purpose. They can waste their un-precious time reading my posts and responding to them however they wish because they have nothing better to do. I won't be seeing any of it, nor do I care to see any of it.

I think Neil Patrick Harris "suffers" from the same luxury many very successful show biz folks have, which is with more success/acclaim/popularity comes *some* criticism and backlash. Nobody outside of Rin Tin Tin in his(er) prime was universally loved.;
Wouldn't mind Harris tackling an original role on BW for his next show, surely he has the name clout to get financial backing in the right production.
As to Hedwig, the accolades/acclaim and box office more than compensates for those who think he was a bad or even a disgraceful Hedwig.
For his husband Burtka, I think there are major issues these days with his singing voice.
I grew up in the 60s and 70s. From my perspective, I think it's weird that we even have to fret about a talented gay man being overexposed. That would have been unheard of just a few years ago!
Gay has nothing to do with it.
In some cases, nothing,
in some cases a lot.
It is what it is.
I discovered NPH when I first saw Dr. Horrible and I've been a huge fan ever since. My mom and I got to see him in Hedwig last year, and we had such a great time. Before seeing the show, she liked him but wasn't crazy about him, but after seeing him on stage she became a fan. His book is great, Neil's Puppet Dreams will always make me laugh, and I love his rendition of "Marry Me A Little."
I also really liked his work in Gone Girl. It was the first time I saw him do something completely serious, and I didn't notice any of his usual mannerisms. Of course, because I'm a big fan of his, one particular scene in that movie was extremely hard for me to watch. (Keeping it vague and spoiler-free on purpose.)
Neil is pleasant, talented, not too edgy, and highly successful, if maybe a little overexposed. He's getting the same backlash Anne Hathaway had in the first half of the decade.

Because of his frontal nudity?

I've been meaning to respond to this point for a while, but just haven't remembered to do it 'til now!
Here's my take: it's no question that Hedwig takes you on a ride from hysterical highs to soul-crushing lows, but for me, if Hedwig can nail the comedy stuff in the first part of the show, it makes everything post-"Wig in a Box" that much more polarizing and gut-wrenching. A failure I've seen in other Hedwigs is not fully driving home the comedy in the first part of the show, so the evening just feels like a progressive ride downward. Neil absolutely slayed the book early in the show, and it made his Tommy Gnosis story that much more profound to me.
But that's me.

I assume "Tobias" is the character in SWEENEY TODD. I never watched DOOGIE HOWSER, but loved CLARA'S HEART, yet rarely gave NPH a second thought until I saw him do the concert version of SWEENEY in Los Angeles. He was a revelation as Toby and turned me into a lifelong fan.
Bumping this up to see what people thought of Best Time Ever. I liked it, and I think it'll get better as the season continues. My favorite part was watching him watch the clip from The Voice.

Not what I was referring to, but yes, that was awkward for me.

His variety show premiere last night was a disaster. I tuned out after 5 minutes- that is sure to be a major flop.

I only watched bits and pieces but the 2 segments I watch seemed to be funny.

I happened to be in the audience for it and it was exhaustively dreadful. I adore NPH but this show boarders him just showing off and will get old really quickly if changes aren't made. The bits off camera during commercial breaks with NPH interacting with the audience were more entertaining than the overly showy segments where NPH puts on his Barney-Stinson-like character. If Neil was just his talented self, everyone would be happier and the show would be much better.

Sorry. I looked for a thread about the show and couldn't find it. Thank you!

I like NPH. Talented and charming in a snarky kind of way. But this new endeavor is a TV show not theatre related. Don't get why Playbill and BroadwayWorld printed stories on it and several reviews like it was an opening at the Palace.
I guess others would want the same coverage if Audra or Kristin did a new TV show but I think there is a TV section of the papers and internet for this type thing.

If they tell us when someone is going to be a guest on a talk show, someone from the community leading their own variety show that tapes in NYC seems apropos.
