"The Broadway newcomer also began studying with noted voice teacher Joan Lader, who "has taught me to eliminate my Southern accent." (Elle is from California.)"
from article.
guess she's taking dialect.
I think she did a nice job but she doesn't live up to LBB. Well, we'll see how she does on the stage I guess.

Does it say anywhere when this single was recorded?

"I can't believe they used Orfeh, Andy Karl, and Becky? What a waste of talented people. I'm not the biggest fan of Becky, but I want to see her interpretation of Elle duirng the tour. It was nice to see Andy Karl though even through the video haha. "
You mean, they didn't work their butts off to get where they are so that they could sing back-up for a girl who won a role on a reality show???
Who were the backup singers in the So Much Better single recording session. I saw Orfeh and Andy and Becky. And, I saw another girl who for a second I thought was Haven but after a second glance thought not.
Who was the linup of castmembers who were in the session?

Nyc10040 - what do you mean? it's like, a dream for them I'm sure. I had to read your comment twice to make sure I understood what you said haha
I think its sad that people will probably know who she is because of a stupid tv show, when there are amazing people in the cast already that are amazing and have been amazing in that show and shows all over NYC on Broadway.
The people who appeared in the video of the session (And I assume, were the only people present) were: Orfeh, Andy Karl, Lindsay Nicole Chambers, Becky Gulsvig, and Matthew Risch.
I guess we should all appreciate the fact that Legally Blonde will go on.
korenglish,
I understand where your comming from. Your not happy with the fact that the person now playing the leads will be known for the reality show and nothing else and that they aren't bumping up someone who was one of the understudies or something like that. As much as I don't like the fact that this is all true I am a realist and realize that Broadway is a business and Legally Blonde isn't doing the best of business right now and it needs something to boost sales. So I can see why they did that. If Broadway were more of a popularity contest and they picked people to play whatever role they wanted and shows stayed opened because they were popular then this would be a different story altogether. However, they went the rout of the reality show. I remember there were a couple of times I was talking to tourists in NY last fall during the beginning of Max and Laura's Broadway run and they said how they were going to see Grease. I asked if they were going to see it because they watched the reality show and a lot of them said yes. I wouldn't be surprised that the answer is will be yes to this. I am sure the teenage girls who would have gone to see the show can't go this summer because they have other plans. But, Baily's contract is done in January so Legally Blonde still has Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years time to get the teen audience in. I think that as much as theatre fans don't like it this is something that I will think be a successful move. And, I did like the fact that they were choosing the winners and not having people vote in to see who they wanted to be on Broadway.
yes they should have bumped up becky or even kate rockwell.
i dont like the single at all.........i miss LBB already!!!!!!!!

I don't get why people are talking about Bailey's accent when at times you could clearly hear Laura's southern accent in the show also. At least I could hear it.
Um...the single was recently recorded, so the "she'll get better in 4 months" theory doesn't make sense. It is 4 months later, and, from the single, she still has the accent. It just doesn't work in any way for the role. She's from Malibu. Born and raised.
DG777, Laura has spent half her life in the city and has been very good at covering what little of an accent she has left.
And the venom starts to fly
All this "oh i miss LBB" most of you on here spent the whole time slagging her off.I always though LBB was the perfect Elle Woods, sure she took a few weeks to hit the role when the show opened in NY and the voice strain got the better of her towards the end but all in all she was very good.
As for Bailey she sounds very good singing 'So Much Better', what do you want a phantom type singing voice?, Maybe a bit of Gypsy?...its a f****g pop score for crying out loud
Give the girl a chance and let her do an actual performance 1st, shes a sweet girl and im rooting for her
She doesn't sound horrific to me. Just trying to get over her annoying personality!

Yeah that sounded really weird at times. I guess maybe I'm just used to hearing LBB's version but it did sound like it was in a lower key at times and then at other times it didn't. It was very strange either way.
Yeah- last year when my daughter and I went to NY- we had tickets to Legally Blonde but because of the strike- we didn't get to see it. However, since she was up there to be in the Macy's parade, the Camp Broadway people had a special night at Spotlight in Times Square. They brought in the cast and they did karaoke with the kids- Anyway, LBB's understudy, Becky performed and she was wonderful! LBB showed up late and barely stuck around. She sang a country song that sounded kinda strange. When this show came on MTV, my daughter asked the same question- why couldn't the understudy take over because she was really good!
Amazingly true Ruprecht. I also don't think there's anything upsetting about who sang the backup vocals. I would immediately ask Orfeh to do something like that when I know she's spent a large part of her life in a recording studio and I love looking at Matt Risch and Andy Karl who both look gorgeous.
Just wondering why all the LBB bashing on these boards? You would think the girl won a reality show or something!
THAT and the Bailey bashing. Give the girl a chance. I bet if you were in her position you would want people to give you a chance.

I've liked LBB from day one. I think Bailey has some big shoes to fill.

winston - I am completely agree with what you said. I am not naive enough to think that taking an understudy and replacing LBB would increase ticket sales. I had a feeling they were going to go this route when they showed Legally Blonde: Musical on MTV. It's a franchise, especially for this particular show. It was based on a movie franchise, and it expanded. It was a smart idea financially, because it hasn't been doing all that well, or as well as they would like the show to be doing. Same goes with this reality tv show. Although I know this... I know Broadway is a business, I still think its sad the way things turned out. I really enjoyed the show overall, and it was the cast that I enjoyed the most. I feel like this show had a lot of talented members and its sad to see this cast having to work with a reality tv winner... if I was in Bailey's shoes, I would be thrilled but it wouldn't be so thrilling as a cast member, IMO. It would be a different experience and I'm sure they are all taking it in stride, but Grease was different in the sense that it was a reality tv show that opened with the reality tv star winners.
Again, it's a business so I completely understand why they did it... I just wish talent would win over sometimes.
I didn't mean that it was a bad decision to use Orfeh, Andy Karl, but I was just surprised to see who they used... that's all. Vocally, obviously, they are there it just was surprising to see those particular cast members in the recording studio because I wasn't expecting them... more along the line of ensemble members to do it.
I enjoyed LBB's performance. It was over-the-top in the way that I kind of anticipated it to be, but I thought she was a very comedic character and she had the vocals when I saw it. Watching Orfeh in the broadway.com video for "Bend and Snap" is who truly got me interested though. I was just kind of neutral, I just not interested with the prospect of a LB musical until I heard Orfeh. I am excited to see what she does with her next project.
Like I said previously, I would be so excited to be in Bailey's position. But it's not about that or even necessarily about the fact she was on a reality tv show. It's about the fact that I don't think she is vocally prepared to take on the role, nor do I like her voice all that much. On top of that, she is too young, in my opinion to be playing that role, specifically emotionally. In comparison to the rest of the leads in the show, she is YEARS younger than them.
