ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZING!
I agree w/ CatsNyrevival about the stuffed dog. They will probably use it to set up lighting and the shot.
I just want to know where Annie got enough money together for a Citibike. Or did she steal it from some poor soul? Or maybe she went into Times Square to be a pick pocket or pan handler. Ooh! Maybe she works with the evil Mickey Mouse and Elmo and all of those other characters.

Your The Wiz reference reminds me of a line that made me laugh at the time -I think it was Paulene Kael's. Diana Ross had a "whim of iron" when she decided to take the part, effectively stealing the part from a talented YOUNG actress who might have been cast, and thus ruining the movie version in the process. The wretched performance of Michael Jackson didn't help matters either.
Anyone else shocked this thing has been filming since the summer, and they're still casting main roles?
You guys seem to be missing the whole point. I've worked on this film already and they are not making it a musical. It is not the musical version. It is a straight film. So let that answer all your questions.
I remember I was prepping for a big speech tournament once and we invited some other local coaches to critique us. The one refused to give me any notes on the 5 pieces I was presenting other than "NO BROWN SHOES W/GRAY SUIT." I told him "eff you very much" as a response.
Then he judged me in the tournament. I didn't do too well in those events. Mainly because I wore the brown shoes again.

I hope you're telling the truth, but isn't Jay-Z doing the music for it? :/
It is not just a straight film, Bobby Cananavale said in an interview he was rehearsing with Cameron Diaz on a new song-and-dance number...Unless something has changed since Thursday.

That number is in-context.

bigsplash - where is proof this isn't the musical. EVERY news outlet since the announcement mentions it's based upon the musical Annie - not the comics.

I think it is safe to say that this will be a musical film. I'm just going to leave this here...

That version of TOMORROW sounds fairly traditional.

might this film not be the huge mess we are all expecting?
I actually was impressed with 'Tomorrow' and that it was used in the film where it should be.
Oh gee, Everyone starts bashing a film they haven't seen one clip of..and then one of the songs is leaked and it turns out that the world isn't going to end and this might not be a horrible film like everyone was expecting it to be..shocker *eye roll*.
The hip-hop beat though in the first chunk. I'm gonna just be optimistic but wait and see what happens.

The song is lowered a third AND auto-tuned. Yep. Still going to bash it.
kthanxbye.
So, they are live-siging with back-up? O_o But, yeah if the girl's voice that wasn't live, her voice sounded WAY TOO autotuned. But, honestly: The music to that wasn't bad. Hopefully, it'll be the case with the other songs.

They aren't "singing live". That's the track used that they "lip sync" to. Sometimes actors sing along to make it sound look more real. That's the way most musical sequences have always been shot when not sung live.

Many Movie Musicals have songs lowered. It's nothing to lash out about. We don't even know if the version we just heard will make it in the final cut. For all we know, they have recorded many different keys and are trying to find the perfect fit. Seriously people..

And it really doesn't sound autotuned...her voice just sounds doubled.
By saying that it's not going to be a "musical" does that mean it's going to be like Enchanted? A few songs and a dance but mostly film?

I would consider enchanted a musical, as the songs were there to forward the story telling.

"So, they are live-singing with back-up?"
That's normal. They did the same in The Sound of Music. The lip-syncing looks more real if the actors sing along to the track.
