Curious- just read on Playbill that a whole new cast starts next week in THE FLICK. I haven't seen it and I doubt I can get there this week. Is this cast a must-see or will a replacement cast suffice?! I assume the play will still be worth seeing. Thx.

Matthew Maher is staying with the company, and in some pitch-perfect casting, Kyle Beltran is joining as Avery, the other male lead. I don't recognize the name of the girl playing Rose and the other part is very small. You'll be in good hands with the new cast.

I personally enjoyed the play, so I think either cast would be fine, but the addition of Kyle Beltran to the cast is news that would have me hold off a week. Beltran is an outstanding young actor. Avery is truly is, as neonlights said, a spot on perfect part for him.

oh wow as someone that saw it at Playwrights i was hesitant to take a return visit with the same cast but I'm totally down for a return with a different cast, anyone know if there is a rush policy?

I don't think so, but please let us know if you find out. There is a $59 discount available.
Just saw this tonight with the new cast. They are terrific. It ran a full 3:20 including intermission and it flew by. Do not have any reservations about going.
I saw the Saturday matinee, after previously seeing it two years ago at Playwrights. Kyle Beltran is perfect. He might even be better than the original actor. Matthew Maher is still terrific. I think Nicole Rodenburg could use a few more performances to fully settle in, but she's fine overall.
I've wanted to see this show forever. I was at the Saturday matinee too. I didn't see the original production, but I thought the cast was fantastic. I'd heard that it was very slowly paced, so that made me a bit nervous, I get wiggly like a five year old, but the subject matter is right up my alley. I am a big movie geek. I felt like I knew those characters. I thought the whole thing was emotionally draining-absolutely heartbreaking. Ya know... In a good way.
Side note... Marc maron has an interview coming up on his WTF podcast with Annie Baker. Can't wait for that.
Now I need to see John.
blast! Looks like John closed on Saturday. Drat! Hate when that happens.

Glad to see posts here praising the almost entire new cast. I saw the original cast their last weekend on TDF and loved it. I want to bring my partner to see it so I'm glad to hear it's in good hands.
JOHN did indeed close Sunday night. I was there for the 2nd time and was able to snag a third row seat. It was great. Felt like I was living with these people. Wish it would move but I hear both Georgia Engel and Lois Smith has jobs lined up already. You wouldn't want to see this play without them. Maybe that's why it won't move. Ms. Smith has something at Playwrights and Ms. Engel is cast in the new Jerry Mitchell project. I do feel Ms. Engel got the role of her career with this play and could see a Tony for her if this played Broadway.

Saw the matinee yesterday and the new cast (I did not see the originals) is incredible. I can't imagine anyone playing Avery better than Kyle Beltran, and Nicole Rodenburg must have settled in - she was fantastic as well. The play's definitely not for everyone, but I'm sorry it took me this long to see it. It's running until January 10th, so if anyone's still on the fence (or wants to see it with this group) you'll be in great hands.
Wanted to see the original cast. Saw the new cast in October and thoroughly enjoyed the play. I would actually like to see it again as I saw it about 2 weeks after they started. There were a few moments they seemed a bit uncomfortable during the quiet times but it didn't take away from the show overall. If you have any thoughts of seeing this play, do so. JMO

I would say this was probably my favorite show I saw in 2015. Really fell in love with it and hope to see it with the newer cast before it closes.
