I noticed the press release doesn't give the usual "Victoria Clark will be giving her last performance on ___." Very strategic.

So has she officially just left for good now? I'm still unclear on that.

Wow, this really does seem pretty abrupt. I loved Victoria in the show (and the show as well) and I know Carolee will do very well in the role but I wonder why Victoria's leaving so soon?

Clark is no longer with the production and hasn't been for a couple of weeks. Jennifer Allen and Trisha Rapier have been playing the role of Mother Superior.

The Playbill article confirms this, actually:
The Tony-winning actress played her final performance in Sister Act Oct. 12. Her understudy, Jennifer Allen has performed the role since that date. A reason was not provided for Clark's departure from the production.

It does seem strange that she would leave abruptly. Updated On: 11/1/11 at 11:50 AM

Saw Allen as Mother Superior last week and she was amazing. A great voice, good comic timing.

I guess I didn't see adamgreer's thread before I posted mine.

Didn't Shelia Hancock also leave for unkown reasons in the West End production as well? I know Whoopi Goldberg departed the Londond cast prematurly last year to be with her mother who was suffering a stroke. There seems to be a curse for whoever plays this role. Hopefully, the same thing won't happen to Carmello.

Carmello will make it very hard for me to stay away from this production...I love her and have never seen her live before.

I really hope Clark is well. She doesn't seem like the type who would leave a production so abruptly without a good reason.

Carmello will definitely get me back in the theatre.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Shiela Hancock's final show was planned infact, she was originally supposed to leave 6 months after the opening but kept extending.

^ I was just a little confused by what Whoopi said in this video when she said that Hancock had to leave:
