New Replacements For Broadway's DEAR EVAN HANSEN Revealed

I think it would be interesting to see two former Gavroches in the show. Gaten Matarazzo would be a great Jared and Joshua Colley would be amazing as Evan. Matarazzo, star of "Stranger Things", might be a draw and boost ticket sales. And Colley is just an incredible talent, with a rich singing voice.

I saw it last week with Josh Strobl as Evan and thought he was fantastic. I was disappointed he's not in this rotation.

And yes on Gaten Matarazzo! I thought Jared Goldsmith actually evoked him!

In his post announcing the news, Sam Primack said he's starting the role "in July" (and staying for a year). The Playbill article says Zachary Noah Piser would share the role with understudies through March 20. So my guess is Ben Levi Ross will likely be there from late March until late June/early July.

Ross will not be in the cast that long… after him, Piser will play Evan full-time for a short stint before Primack joins the Broadway company.

It's so sad he thinks he's staying for a year. Unless that get a huge name for one of the supporting characters, he'd be lucky to make it to September.

Thing is, this show will not be huge seller for regional, high school, and amateur productions. After this closes on broadway it won't have much of a life.

Does anyone know if there is an alternate Evan during Ben Levi Ross's stay in the role? I really want to see Levi Ross in the role and not an alternate!!! Are there evenings/matinees in which he would be more likely to be on stage?

The Evan alternate (currently Zach Piser) performs the matinees. Ben Ross is scheduled for all evening performances.

If Ben Ross is only performing in evening shows, I will not be able to see him. It seems unfair that he will do no matinees. He has the most amazing voice and his vibe is perfect for this role as Evan. I am really disappointed I won't get t see him. If anyone has gotten to see him perform in this role in 2022, I hope they post what they thought of his performance.

I saw Ben in the role last month. This was my fourth time seeing the show and I'd still say Andrew Barth Feldman was my favorite Evan but I'd put Ben as a close second.

I was really hoping they would cast Joshua Colley as Evan. He is such a great actor and has an incredibly rich, nuanced singing voice. But, with a permanent Evan starting in Sept., and the show really not selling well, I feel it may be one of those shows that closes in Jan. So it looks like I may never see Josh in the role, unless he joins the tour or he does a regional production once the tour shuts down. I think he is 19 right now, so there are still a few years where he would be viable in the role. I am still hoping to see it again in New York. (I last saw Piser in the role and he was fantastic!)

I am so confused! Apparently in the article everyone is referring it says that Stephen C. Anthony will be Evan on Broadway in August, but On the DEH website, it says that Stephen Christopher Anthony will be Evan on the National Tour. The National Tour extens through August. Which is correct???

Stephen Anthony is currently the Evan on tour. He has been for a while. He will be Evan on Broadway in August, and after that Sam Primack will be the full-time Broadway Evan.
