New Taylor Swift music video has gay teen battling bullies.

The music video for Taylor Swift's single "Mean" was released today and it features a gay teen being picked on by a bunch of football players in a locker room as well as some other people who are being picked on. However, at the end of the video the teen and everyone else being picked on went on to achieve other things. I really like the message of this song.

A for effort, but it's a lousy video. And why did they have to dress the gay kid is a mauve sweater and a bow tie? Is he gay or just a dweeb?

Thanks Taylor for the sentiment, but you still grate on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard.

As a gay man, I'm starting to feel pandered to by some artists. I know that sounds a little self hating, but I'm kind of sick of the overkill. I mean I hit the wall with Margaret Cho because she just became so political and joyless and angry, and even Gaga could ease up a little bit. I watched her concert the other night and I was like can you just stop giving shouts out to the gays? We get the point.

I'm treading into this carefully, but I agree with BettyBoy's sentiment. It's not that I don't want straight artists supporting gay people, because I do. I think it's great and I'm appreciative of it. I just wish there were more actual gay celebrities fighting the good fight. As uncageg might say, just my two cents. The intentions are there but she's also reinforcing a stereotype. Because really, God knows all the gay guys I've met wore purple sweaters and were into fashion.

Anyway, she's the queen of passive agression.
I know you. I know you. I know you.

She's coming from a good place...but it wasn't really effective. Remember she is a country bumpkin, and she is trying to make a difference conveying a good message to some of her fans that might be very narrow minded. I'm far from a fan, but kudos to her.

Somewhere in the darkest recesses of my heart, I feel like these female artists know that during the lean years (which will come for all of them) the gays will show up and pay the bills. Just ask Taylor Dayne, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Cyndi Lauper and many other ladies of the 80s. Most of them make a living off of gay men and gay prides, cruises and festivals.

She grew up about an hour Northwest of Philly. She's a pretend bumpkin.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

I read about two lines of one comment (because I'm a masochist) and I was already ready to go apoplectic. Just to know that people people are still perpetuating the notion that the King kid was hitting on the other boys and making them uncomfortable. Because, if even if that WERE true, that's reason to suggest the kid was asking for it a little bit.

Why, Oh Why, did I read those comments? I must be a masochist too.

So all I had to do was give up being gay to stop the harassment in High School (and some of my adult life)? Now why didn't I think of that!

My nephew spent a few months at Point Magu, the naval air station outside Oxnard. If you think reading comments like that is bad, you should hear them stated in a check-out lane at a grocery store - loudly. I can atest that a great number of people there feel exactly that way. Just one of the reasons I shake my head when people talk about 'liberal California'.
