Planning my first Theatre Trip of 2022 March 7-13 and I already have tickets for Plaza Suite and The Music Man. I like all my trips to have a mix of shows (Broadway/Off Broadway, Play/Musical, Comedy/Drama). Since I think I have Commercial Broadway Revivals with Stars covered, I  would appreciate posters opinions on the new work coming up Off-Broadway (I realize tat none of these have started previews, so I’m looking for Educated Guesses)

shows on my radar are:

On Sugarland

Confederates

SUFFS

Intimate Apparel (hoping for an extension)

Here is a list of shows I have already seen: most of the stuff from previous seasons, SIX, Company, Girl From The North Country, Little Shop of Horrors

If anyone feels that I’m missing anything (music/dance/comedy events can also be included) please feel free to put it on my radar

With Gratitude,

CJM

Already saw (and enjoyed) it!  I am including that show from 2018/19 in “Shows from Previous seasons” that I mentioned in my original post

recommendation is much appreciated though!

It wasn’t in your original post above so I wouldn’t have know if you’ve seen it or not…

You've listed the ones that I'm most eagerly anticipating.  Others that are on my radar:

Black No More (seeing it next week)

Space Dogs

To My Girls (the cast looks great, but I know literally nothing about it)

Aside from your list, I have 2 more that I'm very looking forward to:

  • Dead Outlaw by David Yazbek
  • Oratorio for Living Things by Heather Christian

so, the time of my trip is officially here! I will be in town the 7-11 and am wondering if there are any options for Monday night (besides Six, because I have already seen it).  Again, please feel free to include comedy, dance or other cultural events in your recommendations

It is disappointing that SUFFS is no longer an option on the 10th, but I am between Confederates, The Chinese Lady, English and Prayer for the French Republic for my final slots

any guidance is greatly appreciated

I've heard good things about English and Prayer. Have a terrific time!

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Prayer is very good. Thought-provoking with excellent performances and direction.  Interesting dramatic structure.  The 3 hours flew by.

I just secured tickets for English.  Happy that our fellow BWWer kurtal shared promo code ENG25 - enabling $25 seat for any remaining performance.

Have fun on your trip!

Gosh, I really don’t envy your tough decision. IMO this has been a really strong winter for Off-Broadway.

English, Prayer, and Chinese Lady are all fantastic plays, and while I haven’t seen Confederates yet, Morisseau is one of my favorite playwrights.

Prayer was probably my personal favorite of the bunch, but that’s partly because it addressed a lot of themes and questions that have been on my mind a lot recently, and that resonate with me deeply as a young secular Jewish person. And it’s also a really strong piece of writing.

The Chinese Lady has a really smart central concept/structure - it had heart and humor, but it’s also genuinely educational about this historical figure, and feels very relevant in its subject matter; a great example of how looking at history can give us insight into how we got to where we are today. The writing maybe isn’t as pristine as the other 2 plays here, but the overall concept and effect of the play is really strong, as are the performances.

English is probably the most traditional play of the 3; it’s a solid piece of writing, with resonant themes and cohesive character development. And the production/direction/acting all help to bring out a quiet, human vulnerability to the piece.

thanks to everyone for their responses!  I think I'm going to go with Prayer and English for now (going to wait till I hit NYC to make any official decisions and try to get rush tickets for the shows I want)

In regards to Monday Night, has anyone ever done Broadway Mondays at Hardware Bar (or Queens on Thursday night at Industry)?????  Thoughts are appreciated

Hardware is a lot of fun and Industry is great too. I'd probably just do both. They're close enough. Get a drink at both and see which you prefer.
