I think the numbers at the end of April will be the most telling on what the Broadway League is going to do. Broadway is suffering, and it needs to do whatever it can to get audience members back in seats. That being said, the question is whether the demographic of people who are buying tickets would prefer to sit with other people in masks or not. The industry is going to have to be strategic because there is going to be a period of time (and no one is going to know how long it will last) where a certain group of people are not going to buy tickets if they know they may be sitting next to someone not in a mask. I'm not saying whether I agree with this or not, but it's the reality whether people like it or not.
The League is going to have to decide when the number of people comfortable buying tickets exceeds the number of people who are not.
I am curious the effect the pandemic (coupled with the future volatility of the industry) is going to have on prospective investors. From an investing standpoint, the industry was always a risky investment with only 20% (I think?) of shows recouping their investments. I can imagine fundraising will not be an easy task for producers if certain investors start putting their money in what they deem safer investments.

^^ Basically you’re saying The League needs to go mask optional. That way, no one gets hurt. The mask wearers can still wear a mask, and the non mask wearers can enjoy theatre again without something obstructing their breathing.

It’s been almost two full years. I have been wearing them for over 700 days. People should be used to this sh*t by now. It’s insane how many refuse to adapt. I literally forget about it being on my face…because it’s become a part of my daily life for almost two years."
Do you realize that literally nobody is trying to stop you from being able to wear a mask whenever and wherever you'd like? Live your life and do what you want. But just because you're accustomed to something doesn't mean the rest of society needs to bend to your wishes for the rest of all time.

That's all dependent on whether the League believes that the number of people willing to buy tickets with a mask-optional audience exceeds the number of people who will not.
As long as the theatres keep the auditorium at the right temperature that it doesn't fog up my glasses using the mask, I intend to keep attending while the mask mandate is in place, and probably afterward. It's funny how before I never really thought about hundreds of people breathing down the back of your neck, and your breath carrying forward to the stage.
You people that complain about SITTING in a theater while wear a mask are simply ridiculous. I wear a mask (and have been for over a year) 8 hours a day, with only occasionally being able to take it off. Doctor's and nurses do it for hours during surgery (not to mention that currently they do it all day long for some 12 hour shifts.) Heck, the Canadian Women's Hockey team kicked Russia's butt WEARING masks.
I'm not saying I LOVE it, or even like it - my face has NEVER had more acne (and I'm nearly 60, so that unto itself is ridiculous) - but I don't complain about it - because it's not a big deal. For MOST people, it's all in your head that you "can't". I will continue to wear my mask when indoors - at the grocery store, at work, at theaters. While I know I am HIGHLY unlikely to get a severe case of covid, I don't want ANY case. And not being sick these last two years, at all - has been pretty sweet. I wear a mask to protect me, but it's actually MORE beneficial to YOU - just in case I'm asymptomic.
I do not yet know if lifting of mask wearing or showing vaxx status will change my ticket buying behaviour, but I only hold tickets through April right now, anyway.

Yup. Just spew your germs all over the audience and actors every time you talk, laugh, or cough. As long as you are not inconvenienced by having to wear a small piece of cloth over your face, that’s apparently all that matters.

You do realize that the MANDATE is lifted but PERSONAL CHOICE is not. Just because a theatre says mask optional doesn’t mean masks are forbidden. You can still wear a mask even though others are not. I don’t understand why that concept seems to be lost here.
I didn't ask anyone to anything but stop whining.

This. Absolutely bizarre and genuinely concerning that this is such a foreign concept to people on here.

Gee, you mean the way things have been for years and years?
We're two years into this and people still refuse to understand that it's primarily other people that the mask protects, not the wearer. So selfish. So ignorant. So pathetic. How about making a personal choice to do the absolute bare minimum? Costs absolutely nothing to do this in a theater.
Gee, you mean the way things have been for years and years?
Hahahaha. FAX.

All that to say: I went into this crap trusting very few fellow humans. Now I don't trust a damn one of you, responsible or not, and you can hardly blame me.All this pandemic has proven to me is what little regard people have for human life the minute that a minor inconvenience gets on their nerves.
FWIW, not that anyone asked, I'm staying full-on masked up in public unless I'm eating or drinking for life. Hey, it works for Japan! And to those who say I'm paranoid, eat a Snickers, you get hostile when you're hungry. I don't care if I'm stigmatized as "that weirdo with the mask" for the rest of my days. I'll be "that weirdo with the mask," andalive."
If you don't want to be judged for wearing your mask indefinitely, you need to reassess how you judge others for making a different choice. From how you've worded this, it seems like you're wearing a mask to virtue signal rather than for your actual health."
No one wears a mask to “virtue signal”. Taking care to protect fellow humans in a pandemic isn’t “virtue signaling”. It’s just being a decent person.

I don’t think a lot of theatre goers have a problem wearing masks during a pandemic. But several people on the board are advocating permanent mask requirements.
And that will NEVER happen. But, if their personal choice is to wear a mask until they are dead, that is perfectly fine.

I said this earlier in the thread, but it bears repeating.
For those of you who are continuing to sing that "mY mAsK dOeSn'T pRoTeCt mE, iT pRoTeCtS oThErS fRoM mE" refrain, stop it. Stop it right now. Stop living in 2020, and educate yourselves on the most recent science, rather than just stroking your own confirmation biases.
By all means, make your own decisions, re masking. If you want to wear a mask forever, have at it. But do it without spreading BS (bad science) to others.

They've been brainwashed by the constant moving of the goalposts, regarding what the purposes of these mitigation measures actually are. At first, it was to stop our hospitals from being overwhelmed (remember "flatten the curve?". Then it was to bridge the gap until there was a vaccine. Then it was to buy time until vaccines were WIDELY available. Then it was to buy time until lots of people got vaccinated (how much was "enough?" nobody knows). Then the ZeroCovid idiots, whoops - excuse me, I mean proponents, decided that we should just be masked and distant from each other until covid is (impossibly) eradicated...even if that meant living like March 2020 until March 2055.
It'd be enough to confuse anyone; especially if they've had their eyes glued to the media for the past two years.
But regardless of that, none of the measures were meant to be permanent. And I think a lot of people have forgotten that.
Whether or not they were meant to be permanent is clearly not our concern at this point.

They still aren't.
And maybe it's not YOUR concern. But you don't speak for everyone, now do you?

Did you really expect anything else?
You're literally the only one fighting in this thread. It's pretty pathetic.
