re: Next Broadway Elphaba's in Wicked?

I say Mandy or Kate. Kate is tall though, I wonder if that would ever hinder her getting the part.

I highly doubt Mandy Gonzalez would leave the role she originated in a Tony award winning Best Musical to become the 7th replacement in Wicked.

shesamarshmallow - thanks for that link. Probably the most relatable up and coming stars I've watched in a long time. She's awesome!

broomstickboy - I'm interested why you don't like Carmen. She does seem to be getting worn out (but after a year on tour I can see why)...but when she is up for it, I think her take on Elphaba is one of the best. Just curious to see what you think!

Lisa Brescia, please.

^Amen! Lisa Brescia and Katie Rose Clarke are my dream pair because they both wipe the floor with everyone else in terms of acting.

The role of Elphaba requires acting?

I wish someone would have told that to Idina Menzel.

Mandy Gonzalez has gone in for Elphaba before.

In fact, I believe she was even offered the standby track once before and turned it down to do the Off-Broadway run of IN THE HEIGHTS.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I like Mandy Gonzalez a lot in ITH, but I don't quite see her voice as Elphaba. However, I'd love to be proven wrong.

I'm interested to see who replaces Kerry in London as well as who's replacing her on Broadway. Big shoes to fill.

I guess they could bump up the London Stand-by, Ashleigh, or current Elphaba Alexia Khadime could return next summer.

I do like that they 'promote' current cast members, but it does get to the point where you want to see new takes on the role. Plus it seems a tad kind of unfair that they don't often bring new people in, preferring to 'keep it in the family' so to speak.

However, I think Julie has earned a proper go!

Carrie Manolakos would be amazing in that role! She has the energy, the voice and the talent....not to mention she is a fresh face on Broadway.

My vote is for Carrie.

as long as the Glinda replacement isn't Annaleigh for a return engagement, I'll be happy.

as far as Elphaba goes, the role should go to Lisa Brescia, but I'd be happy if Kate Shindle plays the role sometime soon, and I guess I wouldn't mind seeing Julie Reiber in the role...

Stephanie Block and Julia Murney will probably always be my favorites...

re: Next Broadway Elphaba's in Wicked?

Lisa Brescia told people in Chicago she was finished with Wicked and ready to move on to something new.

(And I never did get to see her in the role, try as I might!!)

Anne returned my email. She is going on tour as the Elphaba understudy.

"Hey Zach,
Um......a bit of truth. I am going to join one of the tours as the Elphaba understudy. So close, but not totally accurate. I will post details as they come on my website. annebrummel.com

re: Next Broadway Elphaba's in Wicked?

theaterdude87, Height isn't really an issue, in fact, I think it's a plus if they are on the taller side.

And DefyGravity777 was very right. Dee is 5' 11". Victoria is the same height, and Stephanie I believe was around 5' 9". So height is really not a huge factor (although, I don't see any Cheno sized Elphabas in the near future...or the distant future)

"That's a good point. Next time I pee on a Starbucks couch and throw straws and napkins at a barista, I'll just yell, "YOU DON'T KNOW ME OUTSIDE OF STARBUCKS! YOU DON'T KNOW ME AT ALL!" and that should do it. "-LizzieCurry

^ Dee's 5'9". I was a tiny bit taller than her and I'm 5'10".
I agree though. I would rather have Elphaba be taller than Glinda. I saw the tour recently and Katie Rose is taller that Carmen Cusack and it just didn't look right.

Merideth Kaye Clark is about Cheno sized. Well not that small but I'd say she's around 5'2". I just saw a pic of her with Katie Rose who is about 5'7"-5'8".

Well you can now count Eden out... she's officially closing out the LA company with Megan, which is pretty exciting for LA fans re: Next Broadway Elphaba's in Wicked?

Assuming Tveit does Next to Normal in DC (which I have no knowledge of, btw), all three principals might be changing over, plus Madame Morrible and now Nessa. It'll be fun to see all these new people.

Here's hoping that the new Elphie is announced soon. ::cough::Julie Reiber::cough
