No Emmy For Patti

i was disappointed that Lupone and Joe Mantello were not nominated. I thought his was the best performance in the show. Imo all of the design nominaionswere warranted, and I would imagine they will be stiff competition, even if The Crown ends up prevailing there.

However, IMO, the show did not deserve nominations for mini-series, writing or direction.

I'll add my voice to the "Mantello" choir! His performance was outstanding. He's such an incredible actor - I would even venture to say that he's a better actor than he is a director, and he's no hack at directing either. His performance definitely elevated the whole series. He was definitely better than Parsons and McDermott, and I would even say he was better than Taylor and LuPone.

He also had better material to work with than Jeremy Pope, so if I had to say which one was a better performance overall, I might say Mantello. However, Pope's performance was also excellent, and he is so freaking talented. I'm beyond thrilled that he's now an Emmy nominee. That young man is an absolute star in the making, and I can't wait to see where his career goes. From a career standpoint, I'd rather see a newcomer like Jeremy Pope get the Emmy recognition to propel his career, rather than seeing established pros like Parsons, Taylor, or even LuPone and Mantello, adding to their awards shelf.

I agree with everything you say except that I do not think Patti deserved a nomination. I also think Parsons did not deserve a nomination. With the Emmys, I think the nomination "process" produces unfortunate results."

I definitely would have given Mantello the nomination over Parsons. I have to admit thinking that Parsons was nominated because he is Jim Parsons.

That is what I was alluding to re the "process." Parsons is "of" the voting block, Mantello is not. Jim is very well liked by that cohort, Joe, not so much.

Enjoyed the show and agree Mantello deserved a nomination. He was outstanding. Pope was good but I liked Mantello's performance better. JMO

Fair enough! I agree that both performances stood out among the rest and would have gotten my vote.
