re: Nominess Announced for 2007 Broadway.com Audience Awards: Spring Awaken

Not to jump topic, but awhile back when we were allowed to vote for this award, I posted a thread. It got deleted 2 minutes later so I posted again and it got deleted. I thought the third time would be the charm, but it wasn't. Can someone explain to me what happened, I didn't wanna start a trivial thread and ask it?

the whole Spring Awakening thing is so frustrating - it just proves how gullible our society is to gimmicks like a steamy scene or nudity or whatever. we all know that it was just the annoying little obsessed 13 year old teeny-boppers that voted a hundred times. Some of the noms were deserved, but I think it's ridiculous that in some categories SA was voted over Martin Short - that show was genius and should get a lot more praise.

hopefully the Tony committee sees past the tween obsessions and nominates the really good stuff. SA is fine and should get some noms, don't get me wrong. but to almost overtake the best song & acting categories is ridiculous, there are many more people out there that have worked soooo much harder and are exponentially more talented than the SA cast. What about the ACL cast?? Those people are incredible and didn't get near the praise they deserved. I'm so annoyed by this. people are so gullible = /

I think you get a sense of the caliber of these awards when you realize that it is FAVORITE leading actress.

Wiz, SA has fans of all ages. I go to the theatre about 3x a month, and certainly appreciate many other shows, and as a fifty-something, I know and love the classics as well. But I think it's terrific that SA appeals to so many teens- I'd much rather they connect to SA than teen oriented, industrial, cookie cutter shows of poor quality. And I think SA's young fans may stick around as adult fans of quality theatre.
And BTW,I also think that GG fans post here just as often, raving on and on about that show, which didn't move me at all despite Christine Ebersole's tour de force.

I never said anything about the ages of SA. Age has nothing to do with it. But for every show, there gets to be a point where the love extends to too much, and there is a backlash. That;s why people are getting annoyed.

And, I disagree about the amount GG fans post, but that's not what this thread is about.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

As a Spring Awakening fan, I will say that there are many of the nominations that aren't deserved. For example, Best Actress, Breakthrough performance (female), and the Best Song categories are all a little bit...silly in terms of nominations. I'm a little weirded out by Lea Michelle getting nominated over Donna Murphy...

People need to learn how to separate fans from shows, imo.

Hear, hear!! It's the same show when you get into the theatre!!! People are way too into the Internet and what goes on and is said here! Step away from the computer! How is the show being "ruined" for you in the real world? Are there crowds of teenage girls screaming in the audience or something?

Wow! These choices are, umm how do you say, limited? How am I supposed to choose best song out of these choices?
"Bitch of Living", Spring Awakening
"My Junk", Spring Awakening
"Omigod, You Guys", Legally Blonde
"Totally F*CKed", Spring Awakening
"Touch Me", Spring Awakening

Yeah, they should have a fill in becuase it would totally be "Around the World".

Oh and no Donna Murphy?! What has this world come to? Broadway.com...

As an SA fan myself, I find the show to be incredibly moving and would love to see it take home awards. That being said, I don't think it deserves all of the awards. I am biased, and am really happy to see Lea nominated, but I still think it's insane that Donna Murphy didn't get a nomination. On the lines of Lea for Best Breakthrough, she may have made her Broadway debut when she was 8, but she didn't really break-out like she has now. I don't understand how Skylar, Lilli, Lauren, and Remy were nominated. I guess I understand Lilli and Lauren a little, but Remy and Skylar??? Come on. And the song nominations are so weird. Not only are there other great songs this season, but the ones they chose from Spring Awakening aren't even that great.

And as much as I love Lea and Jonathan, if they beat out Christine and Raul for Best Actor and Actress, then there is a problem.

Look at it this way guys. These are messed up, but the Tony nominations come out on Tuesday and they won't be like this at all.

Thankfully the Tony voters' average age is well above fifteen and the hoards of starry-eyed fangirls are kept out of that process. I happen to like a lot of things about Spring Awakening, but I think the way it overran these nominations -- especially the fact that kids with like two lines are now somehow considered "breakthrough" performers" -- is absurd.

VonTussleGirl, I did the same thing! I was like Natalie Cortez sticked out over the 4 other SA girls...No offense or anything, but I just can't wait for Spring Awakening to close. ( Again no offense to the fans, I'm just sick of always hearing Spring Awakening nominated for this and that when a lot of it's noms are quite surprising and seem a bit undeserved). I agree with WonderfulWizard when he says that there is a time when the love becomes just too much..and it starts to get annoying.
