Don't worry BSo, I voted Evil Dead.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Hey, even I'll admit that Spring Awakening was the best original musical of the season, and I hated it.

On the lines of Lea for Best Breakthrough, she may have made her Broadway debut when she was 8, but she didn't really break-out like she has now.

Well, as Emcee said, if SA characters with 2 lines can get nominated for "breakthrough performance" than Young Cosette was more than enough, nevermind Little Girl in Ragtime.

...Skylar Astin for Featured Actor? I don't even remember his character's name or anything about his performance other than that he sings the solo in "Touch Me." Does he even have more than a line or two?

That's true, but then again those awards weren't around when Lea made her debut. And none of the Young Cossete's this year were even up for nominations.

Obviously these are no where near realistic in terms of the Tonys, or any major awards for that matter, so I don't see a point in getting so worked up. Let the SA fans have their glory, these don't really ammount to anything.

Yankee, I'm curious: Why do you conisder SA the best original musical this season if you hated it?

That's true, but then again those awards weren't around when Lea made her debut.
But with that logic, Angela Lansbury is eligible for Best Breakthrough performance.

It's really just that SA fans bombarded the nominations to fit as many actors as remotely possible into each category, logic be damned.

wonderfulwizard, because he hated the other ones even more.

Spring Awakening happens to be the show with the least problems. Curtains, Grey Gardens, Mary Poppins, et al., all have some sort of construction problem that hinders "greatness." Curtains' book is a letdown, ditto Poppins. Grey Gardens hinges on Ebersole and Wilson's performances - would it last without them?

Looking beyond personal feelings, while definitely not in my top-whatever list, Spring is the best constructed show, plain and simple.

I have many quibbles with it, but I have fewer quibbles with Spring than I do the other ones.

By the way, Curtains was my favorite this year because it did something none of the other shows managed to do: make me smile. In retrospect, it was a terribly depressing year in terms of content for the original musical. You want to slit your throat after seeing everything...except Curtains. And maybe Mary Poppins.

I also loved Spring Awakening, but these nominations and the lack of Donna Murphy are utterly ridiculous.

That aside..Andy Karl for breakthrough? Umm..I do believe that he had a much more substantial part in Altar Boyz.

Some of the acting nods Spring Awakening got made me want to puke. Fans just voted whenever they saw Spring Awakening which personally makes me sad. Lea Michele or Laura Bell Bundy being in there over Donna Murphy saddens me as well. Lauren Pritchard for best actress? Puh-lease. She can barely even act. Anyone who is not the three principles barely even has a few solos to sing or possibly a scene of dialouge. Usually these awards are pretty close to the tony nominations but not this year. All these Spring Awakening nods are a joke. I am a Spring Awakening fan myself, but I consider myself an overall theater fan then way before I consider myself a Spring Awakening fan.

hahahaha this bitching about the nominations is hysterical , me and my mate are laughing so hard.

Its voted for by theatre goers THE ONES WHO PAY TO WATCH SHOWS so i think they are pretty spot on.

All the Legally Blonde bashing is silly(has this become the new wicked on here grr). And Spring Awakening deserved all its nominations, why? because thats what the people liked.

and lets face it these nominations are hardly that important , come Tony Time LBB wont be nominated (even though i thought she did fine) and the same with tons of others.

well done spring awakening ,Grey Gardens and Legally Blonde

and that comment about you can tell its all 17 year old girls voting etc etc , aren't 80 percent of the people on here teenagers (very odd, bless)

Love,

The Cast of Spring Awakening

p.s. Just because that stupid show about the Nanny did not fare as well as you would like does not mean you need to show you dumb view.

you dumb view
Pot, meet kettle.

Considering Lizzya9 mentioned Martin Short and the cast of A Chorus Line in her post and nothing about Mary Poppins, "The Cast of Spring Awakening" needs to work on their reading comprehension before attacking others for their opinions. Especially since this is 100% true and has been expressed by many others in this thread: "we all know that it was just the annoying little obsessed 13 year old teeny-boppers that voted a hundred times."

While I'll admit Mary Poppins is not a show I praise and think is the best thing ever, I do not think it's stupid.....

I have followed Lizzya's posts throughout this year and the only show she has talked about was Mary Poppins. So although she may not have said it in this thread, I know what she is thinking.
