O, I never said I disliked the show because of the "rabid fans." I just think it's a shame because it does turn people away from the show and it kind of makes people go into the show with a pre-conceived notion. I'm sure because of obsessive fans, people already dislike the show without even stepping into the Eugene O'Neill. I remember one person who lives far from New York saying how he was no longer interested in seeing the show anymore because of the fanbase. I thought Spring Awakening would be one of those shows that would make people really ponder if they really liked the show. I thought it would bring up intelligent theatre discussion. I didn't think it would ever become a mainstream musical. And I certainly didn't think it would bring out so much negativity. And for that reason, I am disappointed a bit. But that in no way means that I have now decided to dislike the show. I am very much a supporter of the show and I hope it fairs well at the Tonys. Should it win and be nominated for everything? No, but I hope it gets whatever it deserves. As lovely as she may be, Remy Zaken doesn't deserve any kind of nomination. That's the kind of stuff I'm upset at. Does that make my point a little clearer?

"The sad thing that those fans don't realize is that even without the cheating, SA would have gotten many legit nominations." Yeah it really would have. As much as I myself don't like the show, it is unique and so many people are enthralled with it - and not just because Jonathan Groff is oh-so-cute.
HeyMrMusic- I was so surprised when SA became so huge too. It's not like I think the show is god-awful, but I figured that A.)Parents would not support sending their children to see it or B.)It just wouldn't really cath on. I was wronggg.

The reasons I dislike the show are not purely based on the fanbase - I thought the score served no purpose but to establish a minimal amount of emotion and most songs were forgettable at best, and I thought Lea Michele's performance was abysmal. The fact that many SA fans tend to cheat within insignificant award nominating processes and personally attack people who merely voice their opinion of disliking the show doesn't help, but it wasn't the deciding factor. I just want to forget about this piece of saccharine-flavored quasi-"emotional" piece of dreck, but sadly, it looks like it'll be around for a while.
(In my opinion, of course.)
And to the fans who balk at having their precious show compared to Wicked in any way, shape, or form, let me remind you of a critically-acclaimed little show that was slated to win every award it was nominated for, and come Tony time... well, three words. The Pajama Game.

I attended Spring Awakening on the afternoon of Mother's Day. I was astounded that the mothers and gradnmothers in attendance seemed to like the show. Aside from a few attractive performers with good voices, I thought the whole thing sucked

Tom, your continuous good taste never fails to surprise me...and I mean that as a compliment.
Now if only you'd liked Bernadette Peters

i think the most disappointing Audience Award nominations is for the Best Songs
4 Spring Awakening songs and "Omigod You Guys". Wow.

Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:02am^ Mmmhmm. Is it wrong that I voetd for "Omigod You Guys" just to spite the SA fanbase juggernaut?? (In a few other categories, I voted for the one non-SA nominee too even if I didn't know who they were.)

I voted for 'Totally F*CKed' because I do genuinely enjoy it, but I did vote for whoever the other girl was in Best Newcomer just because. The SA love is a leeeeetle off the chart to say the least. XD

Posted: 5/15/07 at 7:51amI just couldn't get into that one. A few too many "blah"s in there for my taste. Call me silly, but I prefer WORDS. :)

Ah, jordan.
"Da-da-da-da-dum..." (Grey Gardens)
"Ahhh..." (The Light in the Piazza)
Wonderful uses of non-words.
Don't be prejudiced against syllables. They have meanings too. Hopefully.
