I mean some people feel upset, especially finding that SA fans have kind of chaeted and done there own thing. I understand its "audience" but that kind of takes the fun out of it.

I was saying email them to make them aware. I guess there is not much they could do, I was just offering a suggestion.

But at the same point she basically has hated SA since the first day it opened.
So what? In this instance, she's totally justified and the Spring Awakening fans are the ones at fault. God help us if you at least admit you're disappointed/embarassed by your fellow fans' behavior without finding at scapegoat SA-hater to draw the attention towards.

I'm definitely not trying to pick on anyone or dig apart lizzy's posts. I just respond when I see her saying something I disagree with. I think we all just need to remember these are just the broadway.com awards. The Tony's will (hopefully) give nominations that are deserved. Obviously Spring Awakening is going to have a different, and consequentley more enthusiastic fan base than a show like Company's or Grey Garden's. I just don't want peoples' vision of the show to be blurred because of some crazy fans who only care about jonathan groff's butt.

I don't know, jg, I think the COMPANY fans are quite the rowdy bunch.

I always see COMPANY fans lined up on the streets in suits and formal wear chanting "Rise, rise, rise and be alive!"

I'm a huge fan of Spring Awakening, but even am a little "eh" on a lot of the SA noms, especially the number of original song nominations.

orangeskittles, everything you say is spot on! I commend you on that! I tried to give Spring Awakening a chance, but some of the fans who think it's the greatest show that has ever come to Broadway, and things like attacking others if they just don't like the show...things like that just turned me away from the show completely...

I've only seen a few ignorant people who said Spring Awakening was the show was the best show ever. If you don't like a show because of a few odd fans, that is kind of sad.

I never thought Spring Awakening would turn into that kind of show. It makes me shudder and want to hide. When I saw it Off-Broadway, I thought it was such an artistic and intimate piece of theatre. I never thought it would fare well on Broadway or find an audience. I thought it would get swallowed up in a bigger house. And now to find a seemingly rabid audience... Please don't let this become the next Wicked! Spring Awakening doesn't have a happy ending like Wicked or Rent, so why all this kind of hype? Shouldn't they be rebelling against their parents instead? I'm a fan of the show, but I voted for some non-SA songs for Favorite New Broadway Song (that means, yes, I voted for some Grey Gardens). I'm a bit ashamed by it all.

But then again, it's Broadway.com. Should we have expected any better?

Actually, from their pseudo-shilling of Legally Blonde, I'd expected that to get the most noms.

I am one of the Spring Awakening enthusiasts so many of you are complaining so bitterly about - I did vote for it for everything - I honestly believe it is the best musical of the season, with the best score, acting, directing, lighting, and songs. I am one of the only people who doesn't really like Grey Gardens all that much; it's just a matter of taste. (I personally found the Grey Gardens score to be very bland; I am aware that mine is a minority opinion). While awards are fun, they shouldn't be taken so seriously. Lots of performers have won awards that I thought gave terrible performances; it's just an opinion, that's all.

HeyMrMusic - I totally know where you're coming from. I think SA is good, don't get me wrong. But it's turned into a teenybopper obsession fest, and unfortunately it's overshadowing the actual art and genius of the show.

Thanks to those of you for defending me! I didn't mean old=talented at all. What I meant was that people like Debra Monk deserve a nom over any of the girls in SA. Same w/ Heather Parcells, Mary Birdsong, etc.

TommyTunesSon- The reason people are "complaining so bitterly" is because people feel SA got too manny noms. I mean, even as a fan of the show, do you believe Remy Zaken deserved to be nominated for Best Breakthrough Performance when she has about two lines in a song? Or that SA has four of the best songs on Broadway, and none of th other musicals (besides Legally Blonde) don't have good songs? People would've just liked to see the nominations spread out a little more evenly.

I think it's kind of crazy that people who were once Spring Awakening fans are ready and willing to throw that admiration out the window based solely on the fact that some fans are obsessive. How does that change your enjoyment the show? The cast? The passion?

Gotcha. The nominations for the Spring Awakening girls in a featured category are ridiculous. I think the show got all those nominations because it was posted on thee shows' myspace. Voting for the show for everything is very extreme. If you think ti is the best in everything this year, you obviously have no clue what is going on.

GO SPRING AWAKENING GO!!!! WOOO! i think they deserve every nom....except for like remy, lauren pritchard...who misses like 2941944 shows....and skylar...all for breakout performance?..odd! if any of the smaller parts in SA it should be Jonny B. Wright..even that would be odd...o well...but I do think they deserve all the other noms!

Why would we email Broadway.com? What would they do?

Laugh. And then hate us. :3 If they even dignified it with a reply, it'd be much along the lines of "we're sorry you feel that way, but as the audiences chose the nominees, there's nothing we could have done".

Man, I wish I hadn't voted before work this morning, I can't remember what I voted for. re: Nominess Announced for 2007 Broadway.com Audience Awards: Spring Awaken

The final list of nominees is fascinating. One wonders how many people actually went and nominated and by what margins the finalists became finalists. Some of the people in the categories strike me as rather odd "popular" voting choices. Then again, based on their extensive coverage of certain shows, it's possible that people visiting broadway.com only know or remember those particular ones. Who knows?

Actually, SethDaniels, you're right about the last part. I was talking about this at a rehearsal, and a girl overheard (this girl just began forming an interest in musical theatre) who said "Oooh well I remember watching that review with the people who would say what they liked, and one of the women said Aaron Lazar was really good in Les Miserables, so I voted for him."
Of course, I'm not saying Aaron Lazar shouldn't have gotten the nomination. I voted for him and I'm glad he's a finalist, but that is a perfect example of someone who voted just because they heard it through the grapevine so to speak. It should be no surprise Spring Awakening got so many nominations. Very few people even KNOW about LoveMusik (that's just what I've heard around where I go perform..not in general).
