I'm so confused... why do people CARE so much that SA got a lot of nominations? These are the Broadway.com Audience Awards. If you're so upset, why didn't you vote for your favorites? SA is obviously the favorite show of many people, so they went and voted for their favorites. What's so wrong with that?
I think it's good that Broadway audiences have awards where they can pick. Every year there's going to be people who disagree with the Tony awards, so it's good that they get to vote for these.

What's so wrong with that?
Because they used fraudulent methods to do so. I can't imagine the cast would be thrilled to know their fans would cheat and lie on their behalf.
And other people did fairly vote for their favorites; they just didn't have an organized effort of stuffing the ballot box to manipulate the results.

After hearing about those fradulent methods the SA fans used to get the noms, I just have to say I'm really disgusted with the fanbase of this show.
It's not even that great, people.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 4:46pmFor the record, I DID vote for my favorites. Don't assume we didn't if we are unhappy with the results. And, as skittles said, people are also annoyed they used fradulent methods to vote for SA.

"All right, I liked Spring Awakening a lot, but some of those nominations are absurd. Remy for Best Breakout Performance? She sings two lines of 'My Junk'."
hahahah, love Spring Awakening, but totally agree, Remy doesn't deserve that nomination!

Posted: 5/12/07 at 5:45pmNo nomination for Donna Murphy? That is insane! Her perfromance in Lovemusik is not only the best I have seen in 2007 - it is the best I have EVER seen.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 5:56pmI did vote for my favorites. Once. The way I'm supposed to. I didn't make up other e-mail addresses. I didn't use my parents addresses or my sister's or my brother's or my cousin's or my friend's. I encouraged them to vote (those who enjoy Broadway) but few of them did. I voted once because only if every person votes once can you truly see who are the favorites. I'm sure Spring Awakening would have received a lot of nominations regardless but some of those really are laughable. PLUS it gives Marc Kudisch and Aaron Lazar no chance to win if they're against 3 SA boys (the same goes for the others in the category with SA actors..except for Lead Actress and Actor..but even then! Could you imagine Lea Michelle winning over Audra McDonald or Kristin Chenoweth, or even Laure Bell Bundy?)

Posted: 5/12/07 at 6:52pmVonTussleGirl, as far as I can tell, you have only heard the cast recording of the show.
#137re: Nominess Announced for 2007 Broadway.com Audience Awards: Spring Awaken
Posted: 5/12/07 at 6:59pmWell, becoz, in VonTussleGirl's defense, most people who don't live in or near NYC can only judge shows by cast recordings.
#138re: Nominess Announced for 2007 Broadway.com Audience Awards: Spring Awaken
Posted: 5/12/07 at 7:02pmTrue, but VonTussle has said before she had no interest in the show. I personally don't think the shows CR is very good compared to to others shows. Updated On: 5/12/07 at 07:02 PM
#139re: Nominess Announced for 2007 Broadway.com Audience Awards: Spring Awaken
Posted: 5/12/07 at 8:28pmActually, I saw the show during its off-Broadway staging. I've just lost all interest in it since. I didn't think it was that amazing then, I doubt that much has changed by now.
#140re: Nominess Announced for 2007 Broadway.com Audience Awards: Spring Awaken
Posted: 5/12/07 at 11:08pmBecoz, do you actually think there's no possibly way someone could have seen Spring Awakening without you knowing? 1100 people see it every night; how could you possibly keep track of each and every one of them?

Posted: 5/12/07 at 11:11pmI just assumed because VonTussleGirl once said she did not have any interest in the show. Why do you feel the need to personally attack me a lot?

Von Tussle: It's changed a lot. You'd be surprised. I only appreciated it intellectually off broadway, but it hit me emotionally on Broadway, almost unexpectedly. One of the most successful off broadway to Broadway transfers I can think of.
In regards to the multiple voting: we're dealing with hear-say here, and people are willing to believe it willy nilly simply because it justifies their point of view. Can someone provide a link to that comment on Facebook where people are supposedly claiming to vote more than once? I combed the fansites and could only find a comment about someone who convinced her mother and her mother's friends to vote for SA, which is perfectly legit. I know I only voted once. Don't they track IP addresses? Most of these surveys do just that and you can't vote from the same computer.
Is it ridiculous for SA to get so many nominations when worthy and amazing actresses like Donna Murphy are left out? Yes, probably. But there are many reasons why this happened. Some have already been stated, but let me compile them here.
1) The SA fans came out enmasse.
2) Younger fans are more likely to be internet friendly than older fans
3) SA's fanbase is much larger than we think. It does not just appeal to teens or non-sophisticated theatre goers. Every major critic loved it, and they speak for the general theatre-going population. Those who were amazed by SA far outweigh the few detractors on this board.
4) those who would prefer other nominations didn't bother to vote
5) Many who read Broadway.com are not in NY and only have the cast recording to judge. The SA cast recording is one of the best selling OBCR's in recent memory.
6)Many people havn't seen the newer shows yet, such as LoveMusik. SA opened very early on.
These nominations in no way will reflect the Tony nominations, and that's part of the fun. Let's keep things in perspective here folks.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 11:26pmRegardless, Bobby, I still think it's very plausible to believe that there were SA fans who used multiple email adresses to vote for the show. I mean, come on, even though SA has a big fanbase, I highly doubt if they all voted once the show would've gotten that many nominations.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 11:27pmok, this is why it is called audience awards. even though you may not agree with everything that was chosen, the people picked these nominations. i'm sorry if you think votes for SA were fraudulent, but their fans just came out and voted more. every vote was cast fair in square, with only one vote per email and one vote per computer even. Every single person deserves a nomination and no one person deserves to be bashed because they got votes because obviously some people really like them. whats going on here is pretty childish to say the least and is unfair to every single performer and show in general. its all in personal opinion and taste, and thats all. Spring awakening is amazing, as well as other shows i am sure, but just because your favorite didn't get the nomination, doesn't mean that the ones who did are horrible. obviously enough people like them and are willing to take the time and vote for their favorite.

Becoz, and you personally attacked VonTussleGirl for reasons that have nothing to do with yourself either. Pot, meet kettle.

Actually, the site says "One vote from every valid email address." Using your parents, siblings and friends' email addresses is not valid. The nominations were virtually forged. It's the online equivilant of people voting using dead people's names and social security numbers.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 11:46pmI said something along the lines of "I know two girls who run a Facebook group". I don't actually belong to SA Facebook groups because I don't like the show. The girls are two people I do shows with, and they told me themselves that that is what they did. They're shameless about it. I won't see them until Thursday, but at that time I can ask them the name of their group and give you a link if you really feel it is that important.
