Anna, I know people who did the same and are saying it shamelessly and it irks me.
Edit: Skittles, again this was a misunderstanding like the last time you attacked me for no reason. I assumed VonTussleGirl had not seen the show from previous statements she said. I feel no point in talking to you further.

It's almost funny right? I was talking to my director about it and who he voted for and who I did and blah blah and they just went right ahead and said something like "Well on the Facebook group we run we told them all to do all this stuff so SA can win! I made like 5 other addresses and used my parents e-mails! Anna, why are you looking at me like that? It's not THAT big of a deal. I bet you voted for aaron Lazar and Audra McDonald like 500 times. The others on the facebook were fine about it. No biggie."
Shaaameless.

Posted: 5/13/07 at 12:04amQuite sad. But you know what I've noticed within the girls and guys my age (so, 15/16) who are that in love with SA? They try to best each other. See who's the better fan. See who will get more attention at stage doors. When my cast of PIPPIN went as a sort of field trip, we stage doored and they were making bets on the way over concernign who could get a bigger smile from Jonathan Groff. THAT is weird.

I meant quite sad to Becoz.
As I am one of those arguing over the injustices of crazy fandom and the Broadway.com awards, I can't agree with Cats.

I love how Becoz writes it off as a "misunderstanding" whenever she blatantly attacks someone for no reason, but when I respond with just as much malice as she shows others, it's because I'm out to get her. Treat others as you would like to be treated, dear.
Personally, I voted for people and shows I haven't even seen yet, just because it *wasn't* Spring Awakening. I heard all the songs and hate "Omigod You Guys", but it's still my favorite in comparison.

And this is not because I don't like Spring Awakening, but the songs that eventually won the noms aren't even the best ones! those SA fans are not as good as we though. I am so disappointed

Anna,I like Spring Awakening and I think this is extreme. I feel bad talking about the shows fan base like this because I help run it. The smile thing is weird...

You don't like my smile???
It's perfectly ok to comment about something negative towards a show that you love. Ewan McGregor is one of my favorite actors, and I'm the first one to say he kinda blew it in Guys and Dolls. I can come up with a LIST of negative things I've said or thought privately about shows or performers I like.

Posted: 5/13/07 at 1:28amI meant the thing about seeing who gets the biggest smile from Groff. Nothing wrong with smileys, I use them all the time. My thing with the fan base is a bit complicated now...

OH! Ha! Gotchya.
But yeah the competition for biggest smile is extreme to the max.

Okay, woah, this thread is insane. I don't understand the accusations of cheating--one person posted that someone had a facebook group encouraging the same four people to ask their aunts and uncles to vote (which they probably didn't). That's cheating? Isn't that how all voting systems work? Especially silly internet voting of no consequence? You ask a bunch of people who don't care to vote for the one you want to win?
Second, it's the Broadway.com audience awards. The audience that reads Broadway.com voted. If the other shows/actors didn't motivate the audience the way SA did, bully to them.
Third, the amount of vitriol I have seen people express towards Spring Awakening astounds me. These are the same people claiming the absolutely juvenile dreck that is Mary Poppins to be some sort of worthy piece of art, and the trying after the first 40 minutes Martin Short to be deserving of nominations. Huh? Mary Poppins? Are we four?
There is a huge contingency of people who just hate SA for whatever reason. I agree that these Broadway.com Audience Award Nominations are fairly ridiculous, but get over it.
Okay, this person (MrMusic) perfectly expressed my point. He says:
"I never thought Spring Awakening would turn into that kind of show. It makes me shudder and want to hide. When I saw it Off-Broadway, I thought it was such an artistic and intimate piece of theatre. I never thought it would fare well on Broadway or find an audience. I thought it would get swallowed up in a bigger house. And now to find a seemingly rabid audience..."
Okay, wait. You liked it but you wished for it to succeed? Once it did you don't like it anymore? That makes what kind of sense?
I just think it's trendy to hate Spring Awakening.

While I don't think the show is award worthy, I did have a somewhat enjoyable time.
But, it's the fanbase that ruins it for people.
They. are. freaky.
That's enough to turn people off to a show.

That seems a little funny, I was at the show recently and 90% of the people there were not teenagers. In fact there were a heck of allot of middle age and senior citizens there. They didn’t seem freaky at all.
I do find it a little amusing that of all of those cast members chosen by the fans, the two that I personally like the most (Jonathan B. Wright and Phoebe Strole) are not mentioned. Go figure???

That's sad if a fan base turns you away from a show. It seems you are just going along with a "trend" to not like it.

Well it's certainly cheating to make-up other e-mail addresses and use those of your parent's, yes.

I'm not just ragging on SA for the hell of it. A good friend of mine is involved in it's production and I still never liked it, and I never will. And I also don't like Mary Poppins.
Again, I said before I myself am not going to complain too much because the people I wanted to get a nomination did, I'm just pointing out the extremes of some of the fans.

Roninjoey- What the hell does Mary Poppins have to do with anything? No one has mentioned that at all.
Also, as I said before, I think even before anything had been said, it was fairly obvious there were some SA fans who used multile screen names to vote for Spring Awakening. Even if the fanbase is that large, I still find it hard to believe SA got that many nominations. Even Wicked, which arguably has a much larger fanbase than SA, didn't get this many nominations.

Sorry, I guess I didn't read the thread closely enough. With my earlier post, I didn't realize that some SA fans were supposedly stuffing the ballot box. The sad thing that those fans don't realize is that even without the cheating, SA would have gotten many legit nominations. Regardless of those few people who made up email addresses, it's a popular show. Period.
Also, someone made a comment earlier in the thread that people need to learn to separate fan bases from shows. That is SO true.

These award nominations are exactly why I love this website so much. I love that people on here have such different opinions on all the shows...unlike on broadway.com.
Although I love SA, a lot of those nominations are ridiculous.
I did love the Aaron Lazar nom though. =)
