re: OOUCH! Mammas Got 3rd Degree Burns

Lol that's just the end of the post, the "" denote what was in TLP! But I was excited because 'Twitterers' got a mention - and I know that means me and a small group of people who've been relentlessly taking the piss for days now on FB. We just started an #ErnieGetYourGun hashtag for funz.

OMG !
When it gets revived in 20 years time I think they should call it 'Ernie Get Your Gun'
-that is classic!

Dammit! I'm working every day next week - don't s'pose there's much hope of this lasting into mid/late August is there? I really want to see it based on the reactions I've read so far - have never seen a truly, spectacularly craptacular West End show where even the cast can't 'suspend their disbelief' before.
Seen some shows in my time....

Never having seen a programme for either fiasco, what is this guy's background? Does he have more money than sense and is just inflicting himself on an unsuspecting public? Surely there should be a health warning sign in every agency- do not let your artists become infected!

I would like to see this, but the cost of getting to London is actually arounx 5x the ticket price so I don't think I'll bother.

In all seriousness, has anyone actually managed to come up with a reason why this was staged? Any reason at all, however stupid, why someone thought this was a good idea?

Well, I'm going on Tuesday! (Tomorrow)
I am actually excited about this, but at the same time I think "I am using my £20 ambassadors voucher on it... which I could be using to see La Cage tomorrow!"

Oh well, Im waiting till Barrowman to see La Cage anyway... AND it's coming to The Mayflower next year!

re: OOUCH! Mammas Got 3rd Degree Burns

I am so jealous that you get not one but two craptacular shows out of John Robinson, and the only so-bad-it's-good musical we get in recent memory on this side is In My Life.

Congrats to Johnny Fox for coining the immortal phrase Ernie Get Your Gun, and to all the posters here who scooped the paid critics by days (and had better puns).

But let me stop laughing uncontrollably and ask this: With the clueless creative team, the collapsing table, the unintended comedy and the heckling from those who stayed, could this investment have been designed to fail by a real life Max Bialystock?

I mean, a musical about Hemingway's suicide???

"could this investment have been designed to fail by a real life Max Bialystock?"

It could be, but there are enough delusional people in this business that it's probably SRSBZNS.

And I loved In My Life. Brilliantly designed and completely fscking insane. And Brooks at least knows how to write a nice melody or three.

After some research, I find that the shortest ever run of a musical in London was 1 performance:
"Oscar Wilde: The Musical" by Mike Read at The Shaw theatre in 2004. (Never saw that one - bet it was a rare gem! lol)

The two shortest ever runs on Broadway are also 1 nighters (not including previews):
"Glory Days" in 2008;
Charles Strouse and Alan Jay Lerner's "Dance A Little Closer" in 1983 (which actually has a really fabulous score!). It rather cruelly later earned the alternative title by some wags - "Close A Little Faster".
