So, I'm deeply interested in seeing Othello with Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal. But these ticket prices are OUTRAGEOUS.
When tickets went on sale, the advance prices were between $150-600, which I thought was nuts. I just looked on a random Tuesday, and the cheapest seat available still now starts at $550! And the most expensive is almost $1,000 for a single seat!
I know there's a digital lottery for $49 tickets, but I'm from out of town and can't just drop and go one random win.
Is there any other system for getting tickets for under $100?! Standing room? Cancellation line? Black market mafia deal? These prices are just crazy.
Did you expect ticket prices to go down? The "cheap" seats went fast. As they always do.
Your best chance is hoping the secondary market tanks and you find a last minute desperation/frantic ticket just before curtain

I would suggest downloading the Theatr app, lots of reselling of tickets, I have seen some Othello tickets go in the past few days for as low as $75 or $99. I think that will be your best bet, given you're out of town not sure when you're here. If you're able to hang around midtown or the Barrymore and wait pretty close to curtain I saw a $300 drop to under a hundred 10mins before the show.

If you are from out of town, your best bet is to leave a slot open on your schedule and check theatr app for last minute deals. There really isn't a way for an out of towner to buy inexpensive seats ahead of time.
I don’t think the Barrymore theater has standing room.
Dont forget the cancellation line. I don’t know how much these tickets are but they tend to be a little below or above $200.
Judging from what happened to Macbeth starring Daniel Craig back in 2022 where reviews were mixed-negative, it was so much easier to find tickets later in its run.
If the reviews for this Othello are negative, then I bet there will be a lot of cheaper tickets in the secondary market open up come April/May.
The date in this thread must be wrong. It should be dated like six months ago because..... what?
